This story is about the London Fog drink which takes place in the now closed Buckwheat Cafe in Vancouver. A regular customer was pregnant and could no longer drink coffee, so she asked for an alternative to her daily brew and received a concoction of steamed milk with Earl Grey tea and a little vanilla, which became commonly known as a London Fog. By the mid-2000s, the drink was commonly ordered in Calgary, as Vancouverites would frequently visit family there and likely encourage the ordering of this drink. Following that, it was added to the menus of major coffee shop chains and gained mass appeal across the country.

Za'atar manakish uses za'atar, which is ground dried thyme, oregano, marjoram or a combination, mixed with toasted sesame seeds, salt, and other spices such as sumac. The za'atar is mixed with olive oil and spread onto the dough before being baked in the oven. Za'atar manakish is a breakfast favourite in Levantine cuisine, or as a snack with a glass of mint tea . Give it a try!

Foul mudammas, Egypt’s national dish is made with hearty, creamy fava beans and loaded with flavour from ground cumin, fresh herbs, olive oil and a lemon garlic sauce with hot peppers The sauce is not spicy but it adds just the right tanginess. We pit it on a bed of hummus as is typical to do in the Middle East. Eat it with warm pita bread and sliced veggies, and turn it into a big vegan feast for your breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is the last day of @winnipegvegfest Le Vegan Week, don’t forget to vote https://buff.ly/2XO0zl1

You love our food and coffee? You can get much more of it with the giveaway we just launched. We’re taking advantage of our November giveaway to raise funds for the @UNRWA in observance of the UN’s solidarity with the Palestinian people day, celebrated on November 29. The UNRWA helps Palestinian refugees. It has recently undergone major funding shortages. Recently, they’ve had to defer employee salary due to lack of funds and that means less help is going to those most in ...need and gravely affected by Covid, poverty and displacement. Some of the refugees the UNRWA cares for have been found looking for food to feed their families in garbage bins . Let’s try to help however we can. We’ve launched the giveaway to maximize the funding so we can donate 10% of our month long sales to the UNRWA. Inside the gift bag: Handmade mask with embroidery T-shirt of the campaign $50 gift card Kaak (holiday date cookies) pastry + Keffiyeh (famous Palestinian black and white scarf) Coffee beans To enter: 1 Like this post 2 Follow @yafacafe 3 Tag a friend you think would love to try our food (Unique names, each line is an entry, no celebrities pls) 4 Order takeout 5 post a story or photo with your takeout order. A common story for knafeh is that the dish was created, and prescribed by doctors, to satisfy the hunger of caliphs during Ramadan. The story varies and dishes mentioned in historical texts are not the same as the modern versions of kanafeh. The 13th-century anonymous Kitab al tabikh fi-l-Maghrib wal-Andalus (Book of Dishes from Mahgreb and Al-Andalus) uses the word kunfa to describe a crêpe made with thin batter on an Indian pan or "mirror" (the tbaq), and says it is equiv...alent to ruqq. It gives a number of dessert recipes for kunfa, where the crêpes are served layered with fresh cheese, baked, and topped with honey and rose syrup; or cut up into shreds like rose leaves and cooked with honey, nuts, sugar, and rosewater. In the later Middle Ages, a new technique was created, with thin batter being dripped onto the metal sheet from a perforated container, creating hair-like strings. A mid-15th-century Ottoman Turkish translation of Kitab al-Tabikh became the basis for the modern kanafeh. It is fried together with butter and fillings or toppings such as nuts, sweetened cheese, or clotted cream, and mixed with rosewater and sugar. See more

As we draw closer to the holiday season, despite the pandemic, we can still celebrate in small groups. If you need to impress your guests with some exotic dishes, order our shish barak. It’s dumplings filled with ground beef and cooked in yogourt stew. Eat it with rice and your guests will surely come back for seconds.
