YAK and Perth Childrens House partnership: "Our youth centre is in use weekday evenings Monday to Friday, says Rachel Roth, executive director of YAK. "Other than myself in the centre, it has been vacant all day for quite some time. Over the past year, our board and I have been searching for a like-minded organization, with preference to a child and youth service, to share our space, maximize its usage, further our mandate, and help with our overall expenses. We are thrilled to have Perth Childrens House here during the day helping us be more inclusive and aligned with our goals and objectives. As our mission states, we are committed to promoting community and increasing developmental opportunities, and this partnership assists us in doing just that.

Meet Andrew Wilson YAKs new Program Coordinator - Andrew graduated from York University with a BA and Honours in History. He also holds a Diploma in Sport Management from Humber College. After graduating he worked as the Business Development Coordinator for TAC Sports in Toronto, helping to deliver high quality sport and educational activities to youth in the GTA. After moving to Lanark County, he worked with Lanark Community Programs providing social and recreational programs for youth with social, emotional and behavioural challenges. Andrew has training in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide intervention and High Five Sport fundamentals.

We are excited to announce that the new Pump Track at Conlon Farm will PARTIALLY open tomorrow July 18th at 8:00 am. Due to the continued extreme heat the new a...sphalt is not completely hardened, so the track will close daily from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm to ensure that the asphalt is not damaged. YAK is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 12-8pm. We are hosting BBQs each of these nights (weather permitting); we are also offering transportation through Lanark Transportation to and from the centre. As of Tuesday June 16, 2020 YAK Youth Centre will reopen 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays) from 12 8 pm. A BBQ dinner will be provided (outdoors and/or take out style) each night. As well, transportation (to and from the centre) will be made available through Lanark Transportation starting on the 17th. We have put in place a long list of protocols to ensure safety and compliance with our local health regulations, and we will do everything we can to make sure we are not spreading the virus during our reopening and programming here at the centre. We are going to be running an online Home Alone course via zoom in the coming days and weeks and want to hear from any interested local youth or their parents - if you are interested in joining please message us over Facebook or email: [email protected]. This course provides a manual and certificate and will help participants understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied at home alone.
