I arrived today in Kyiv and was curious to note, that the martial law that some regions of Ukraine had been placed under, were unceremoniously lifted. This is ...great news and a Christmas gift! But it reminds me that only "negative makes the news" and an entire country (more than twice the size of the United Kingdom or Germany) gets painted with a dirty brush. As I drove past the Maidan tonight and as the world celebrates peace, I am reminded of a revolution that occured on this very ground not so very long ago. Don't forget the people that sacrifice for freedom and don't forget to be vigilant for the fragile democracy that we all still hopefully belive in. I have never been much of a nationalist. I am a proud Canadian. But I believe in the right of individuals to have the freedom to choose their future. To that end, I have become passionate about the destiny of Ukraine, it's culture and it's people. Ukraine has had arough go over the centuries, but whether it be through art or tourism or talking the truth to power - don't stop believing in this truly amazing country. I made this bit of choreography a few years back and wanted to share it. It was a great group of students that I had the chance to work with and they taught me as much as I taught them. Thanks MY Ukrainian Dance Academy!
