Scar massage can be an important part of your therapy after tendon or ligament repair, grafting, tissue injury, surgeries, and anytime adhesions limit motion. Meet Arden, one of our Registered Physiotherapists: Arden graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta. Her experiences in oncology and adapted physical activity are what lead her to physiotherapy. She fell in love with the Paralympic sport of Boccia during her undergrad and helped to coach and develop programs in Edmonton which inspired her to pursue rehabilitation. Afterwards, she worked... at the University of Alberta Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic, where she saw the impact of exercise based rehabilitation on improving the quality of life of survivors and never turned back. It was after a clinical placement at the Royal Alexandra hand therapy clinic, that she discovered an interest for hand therapy. She loves the opportunity to be crafty with making splints to complement physiotherapy treatment. Arden has completed her Level I Pelvic Health Certificate and looks forward to pursuing more education in women's health, and acupuncture. Outside of work, Arden teaches yoga, and loves to read, hike, and take photos. Needle aponeurotomy is one of the procedures used to straighten bent fingers (contracture) caused by Dupuytren's Disease. This procedure may also be called percutaneous needle fasciotomy. Under local anaesthetic, your hand surgeon will use a needle to puncture or weaken cords before stretching to break them. The procedure usually only takes about 15-20minutes. After getting a Needle Aponeurotomy procedure, you will be instructed to do gentle ROM for a week. In some cases, h...and or finger splinting may also be required for a short time.
