The short answer is yes, but only if it’s done correctly! . What is it? Sleeping in close proximity to your child, it may be in the same bed or in the same room! Each family will have their own version of co- sleeping such as: Parents and baby share a single bed... Side-car arrangement ( this is my personal favourite). The crib and it’s mattress are securely flush with the parents bed. 3 of the 4 sides in the crib are left intact, the 4th is removed or lowered so the parent closest to baby has easy access. It’s essentially an extended sleeping surface for baby to lay safely on. Different Beds /same room. Baby/ child start their sleep in their own crib or bed in the same but move into parents bed at some point. Advantages: Parents and child often have better night sleeps Breastfeeding in the night is much easier if baby is near by. It also helps keep milk supply maintained The risk of SIDS is decreased by 50% Moms breathing help teach baby’s lungs to breath properly Waking up to a happy smiling baby is always the best way to start a morning . How to create a safe co-sleeping environment: Sleeping surface needs to be firm with bedding tightly fitted to the mattress. No loose pillows, fluffy blankets, stuffed animals Babies should NEVER co-sleep if a parent is overly tired, or had alcohol / sleeping medication/ drugs / or if there is smoker sharing a bed Long hair should be tied up so it’s not in baby’s face or get wrapped around baby’s neck No swaddling baby , this could cause them to overheat easily No siblings until baby is over a year old. No space between bed and adjoining wall where baby can fall and become trapped Co-sleeping is far more common that you think! A 2013 study showed that 13.5% of parents co-slept in 2010 compared to 6% in 1993 . I bet if you asked, there is at least 1 parent in your friend circle who partakes in this . Co-sleeping is such a wonderful bonding experience for both parent and baby if done properly and safely! Who wouldn’t want that extra hour of sleep if they could get it. . #cosleeping #cosleepingfamily #cosleepingsafety #bondingexperience #sleeptight #sweetdreams

YEEEEEEEES!!!! Doulas are worth it !!!! . Evidence shows that women who labour with a doula by their side experience: 31% decrease in use of Pitocin 28% decrease in risk of C-Section... 12% increase in likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth 9% decrease in use of pain relief 14% decrease in the risk of newborns being admitted to special care nursery . Doulas fill many roles throughout labour: Help you understand all the options Help you understand the stages of labour Stay with you throughout labour and through the birthing process Help initiate breastfeeding Help process the postpartum time . Doulas can provide support: Verbal encouragement to get past those mental roadblocks, cheering you on Physical support- massaging you’re back, hand holding, keeping cool wash rags on your neck and back Keeping tabs on what your midwife, doctor , or nurse has to say . Many moms choose to have a doula on their birth team, which is definitely a personal one! Make sure you are you partner are BOTH comfortable with this choice. . #doulasupport #chilliwackdoula #abbotsforddoula #fraservalleydoula #birthwithoutfear #birthwithconfidence #welovebirth #womenarestrong See more

We love our community Midwives, and they need our help! We urge you write to our local MP asking for unbiased pay on their behalf. These women put so much of their heart and soul into their work to ensure our pregnant mommas receive the care deserved. Our Midwives are not receiving pandemic pay like the rest of the health care professionals, they are not receiving sickness pay like the rest of the health care professionals, and all of their PPE is is not being covered either. If we would like to continue seeing these amazing Midwives providing high standard of care, we need to show them they are valued and needed !

When each stitch was made intentionally and out of love . . I met a lovely little Grandma last winter who was handing out free toques that she made at the grocery store here in Chilliwack. I gave her our business card, and explained what we do, and if she felt led, we would love to help gift her beautiful hats to new parents and their bundles of joy.... Last week she called me up, and said she couldn’t give the hats out this year at stores due to covid which has been super disappointing for her. She still wanted to make them so she would love to gift them to our clients . . #communitygrandma #loveintentionally #ittakesacommunity #fraservalleydoula #loveallthebabies #yellowbirdbirthservices #bcdoulas
