Another gorgeous fall day. Hard to believe there’s snow in the forecast for many of us on the south coast! Aren’t these red leaves so beautiful? Blueberry plants are a year round delight. They’re our favourite plant on the farm. Green with pretty little white flowers in the spring, the most prolific, delicious blue fruit in the summer, and vibrant red in the fall. Even when they’re bare in the winter the red canes are pretty. We also harvest these red leaves and make tea wit...h them, as they are a nutrition powerhouse, full of antioxidants. What’s your favourite plant you have? . . . #gardenfood #growfood #gardening_feature #growyourown #bcfresh #buybc #bcfarmersmarkets #bcgrown #ediblevanisle #lifesagardendigit #preservetheharvest #homegrown #cultivatinghomestead #homesteadingmama #farmfresh #happyhomestead #homesteadlife #farmlife #yellowpointfarms #bcfarmhers See more

Beauty day. We’re holed up on the farm trying not to watch the news or worry about what is happening elsewhere in B.C. and the world. We feel so lucky to live where we live. Hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing weekend, getting outdoors, and getting some nature and/or animal therapy. #staysafe . . . #goatsofinstagram #animaltherapy #goattherapy #nigeriandwarfgoats #goatherder #goatjournal #farming #cultivatinghomestead #homesteadingmama #happyhomestead #homesteadlife #farmlife #yellowpointfarms #bcfarmhers

After all the goat posts I could sense my sheep feeling left out . So here’s a smiling sheep to bring you a smile on this Wednesday eve! Yesterday I was posting all about feeding goats. And many people started asking about the sheep too, and if they can be kept together with goats. Our breed of sheep (babydolls) can be kept with the Nigerian dwarf goats because of their smaller stature. There are many similarities in their care, but some differences too. One of the differen...ces is in what they prefer to eat. Sheep are true grazers. If you’re looking for something to keep the grass down it’s sheep. Goats won’t do as good of a job because they’re browsers. For example, I can run my sheep through our blueberries, apple orchard, and vineyard with no problems. The goats would start munching on all those plants! We like to run our goats and sheep together because the goats eat the weeds and brush and the sheep eat the grass. One other important thing to note is sheep can’t have as much copper as goats need, so sheep can’t be fed goat text, or goat minerals. When I housing them together I fed everyone sheep text and would put the goat minerals up high on a shelf (sheep don’t jump). And booster the goats with copper bolus. Anyways, I could go into it all further but it’s definitely possible to keep them together! . . . #fall #fallonthefarm #sheep #sheepofinstagram #babydollsheep #shepherdess #farmher #bcfarmhers #farmlife #iamcountryside #canadianag #yellowpointfarms See more
