ABOUT SIMEON: I really love rocks. I love throwing rocks, climbing rocks, looking at rocks. They seem so solid, ancient, unchanging, dependable. While much of counselling is unpredictable and surprising, I hope to remind my clients of the rocks in their life. The people and stories that they rely on. I hope to create a solid place to stand in our counselling sessions where clients can explore difficult topics and still feel safe.

ABOUT SIMEON: I am a settler to Canada of German/ Dutch Mennonite heritage. I recognize that my culture and background influences my biases and ways of seeing the world. My hope is to be aware of this influence in session while learning to work with my clients from within their cultural context.

MENTAL HEALTH TIP: If you notice your anxious thoughts spiralling out of control, take a moment to assess them. Which thoughts are what ifs for the future and which have to do with this moment right now. This moment is the only one you can do something about so focus on those thoughts to help you decide how you want to act in this moment.

ABOUT SIMEON: I’m a bit of a science nerd (this microscope was a birthday gift from my wife and her family). My undergrad degree was in Biochemistry even though I ended up deciding to be a counsellor. My love of science makes me curious about how biology and chemistry are woven together with personality, relationships, and spirituality. I hope this side of me helps give me a more holistic understanding of my clients and their experiences.

MENTAL HEALTH TIP: Try saying yes to your experience. Instead of getting frustrated with yourself when you’re not thinking/feeling/doing what you want to be, notice where those thoughts/feelings/actions are coming from. Remember that they are there for a reason and thank them for what they are trying to do for you.
