A group of women connected to Shannon, one of our Youth Workers, have been knitting away to make handmade winter wear, scarves, hats & headbands for our youth. Thank you so much for your continued gracious support! Our Winter Wellness Boxes will be launching in the new year. The winter months can be difficult & with the province wide 28-day lock down, it is common to experience new difficulties, tough days & loneliness. The Winter Wellness boxes will provide youth with ...personal hygiene items, self care activities, ways to enjoy the Canadian Winter, etc. It is because of incredible donations like this that we are able to continuously support youth across the region. #ThisIsY #YMCA #YMCAofThreeRivers #BetterTogether #HereForGood #KWAwesome #WRAwesome #WRUnited #WatReg #Youth #YouthPrograms #Kitchener #Waterloo #Cambridge #Guelph #Stratford See more

Indigenous youth are specifically vulnerable to human & children rights violations - they are often caught between their indigenous language, culture, customs & values and those of wider society. Frequently they are forced to leave their traditional communities & move to urban areas pursuing employment/education opportunities, where they experience discrimination and are denied equal opportunities. Rights of indigenous youth include the right to education, employment, h...ealthcare, housing, freedom of expressions, & the protection of social & cultural rights (learning & speaking traditional language). Article 30 of the Convention of the Rights of the Child recognizes the right of indigenous youth to enjoy their traditional culture, practice their own religion & use their traditional language. #ChildrensRights #RightsOfTheChild #YouthRights #NationalChildDay #TakeBackTheFuture #KidsTakeOver #ThisIsY #YMCA #YMCAofThreeRivers #BetterTogether #HereForGood #KWAwesome #WRAwesome #WRUnited #WatReg #Youth #YouthPrograms #Kitchener #Waterloo #Cambridge #Guelph #Stratford See more

Take advantage of the sunny fall weather while it lasts and take a walk outside, even if it's just a short walk around the block. If you do include your friends, make sure you do your best to social distance! Being outside and soaking up the suns rays has many health benefits and can help beat the COVID blues. #YPTIPTUESDAY #ThisIsY #YMCA... #YMCAofThreeRivers #BetterTogether #HereForGood #KWAwesome #WRAwesome #WRUnited #WatReg #Youth #YouthPrograms #Kitchener #Waterloo #Cambridge #Guelph #Stratford See more

An important tradition in Kwanzaa involves a candle holder called the kinara. The kinara holds 7 candles - 3 red, 3 green & 1 black. Each day during Kwanzaa, one candle is lit; all of them will be burning brightly come the 7th day. Every candle represents a different value of African culture. Today marks the 1st day of Kwanzaa. UMOJA (oo-MO-jah) - Unity This is when the goal of unity in the family, community, nation & race is declared.... #Kwanzaa #7Principles #JoyousKwanzaa #ThisIsY #YMCA #YMCAofThreeRivers #BetterTogether #HereForGood #KWAwesome #WRAwesome #WRUnited #WatReg #Youth #YouthPrograms #Kitchener #Waterloo #Cambridge #Guelph #Stratford See more

Kwanzaa is a time to celebrate the richness of what it means to have African roots. It’s a time for people of African heritage to celebrate their culture and its history. The word kwanzaa comes from the Swahili language and means first fruits. It is anchored in 7 principles that aim to inspire being united, self-determined, accountable for their communities, financially invested in Black-owned businesses, purposeful with their lives, creative & full of faith. ... #Kwanzaa #7Principles #JoyousKwanzaa #ThisIsY #YMCA #YMCAofThreeRivers #BetterTogether #HereForGood #KWAwesome #WRAwesome #WRUnited #WatReg #Youth #YouthPrograms #Kitchener #Waterloo #Cambridge #Guelph #Stratford See more

Today is World Kindness Day! The goal is to highlight good deeds in our own communities and globally because kindness is the common thread that unites us all. We are challenging everyone (including our Youth Programs team) to be more intentional with our acts of kindness. Treating people with kindness is so powerful and the simple act of making someone's day can go a long way. We can truly impact our peers, our friends and family, and our communities. Our suggestions for ...today are: 1. Pay for someone's coffee at Tim Hortons 2. Try to make sure every person in a group conversation feels included 3. Practice self-kindness and spend 30 minutes doing something you love today 4. Let someone cut in front of you in line 5. Pick up a piece of garbage on the street and throw it out Let us know what kindness mean to you, and comment below if you completed any random acts of kindness today! #WorldKindnessDay #MakeKindnessTheNorm #ThisIsY #YMCA #BetterTogether #HereForGood #KWAwesome #WRAwesome #WRUnited #WatReg #Comeback #ReOpen #Youth #YouthPrograms #TeenDropInZone #WhatsAtStake #StaySafe #StayHealthy #Kitchener #Waterloo #Cambridge #Guelph #Stratford See more
