Many people think that in order to see results in the gym, they need to push themselves to the max every time they train. Doing that can actually promote injuries. Those types of workouts may even make you feel more sluggish after your session then when you started. That’s why it’s important to listen to your body and plan your workouts accordingly.... You shouldn’t be bringing every single set to failure or hitting your 1 Rep Max (1RM) every week . You also shouldn’t be doing HIIT workouts every single day. All these things can put a strain on your central nervous system and your body. It’s important to prioritize rest and to use sets to failure, your HIIT sessions and your 1 rep max sessions accordingly. Here are a few guidelines that can help you: 1. Use your last set of an exercise to go to failure instead of doing every set to failure 2. You should only ever perform your true 1RM 1-3 times a year. 3. It’s recommended to have a day rest in between HIIT workouts and that you do no more than 2-3 a week. If you need help implementing these things in your program or if you're looking to work with a trainer, you can contact us at [email protected] - Your YMCA Personal Trainers

Locker rooms will NOT be available for use. These 2 stipulations are required by the province of New Brunswick in order for us to remain open. These will remain in place until the government informs us otherwise. All Aquatic Programs will be put on hold while in the orange phase. This includes all classes, swimming lessons, Aquatic Fitness classes, Public Swims. Lane Swimming & Adult Therapy Swim will continue as normal with reduced capacity. Online booking for all 4 lanes will be available. Drop in Lane Swimming will be paused. Tween Zone Program will be paused for 2 weeks. Did you know that you can share personal training sessions with someone? There are a few options 1. You can purchase sessions and divide them between the two of you. 2. You can do the 1 hour session together ... It’s a great way to offer sessions as a gift to someone, or to save some money by sharing the cost! If you want to work with a personal trainer, you can email [email protected] - Your YMCA personal Trainer
