Alberta’s government is providing more financial support to the Alberta job creators hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of additional temporary health measures announced November 12, the Government of Alberta is ensuring affected small and medium-sized businesses receive additional support through the opportunity to apply for a second payment from the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant. This second payment will be available to businesses operating in areas... on the provincial watch list where new health restrictions like the temporary closure of indoor group fitness classes and team sports have been implemented. Additionally, job creators that have experienced a 40 per cent revenue loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic will qualify for the grant, lowering the threshold from the existing 50 per cent revenue loss requirement. This 40 per cent threshold will be available to impacted businesses retroactive to March. Read more: https://www.alberta.ca/sme-relaunch-grant.aspx See more

Day 6 of 30 Melanie Lynn Ference of Chocolates & Candlelight Inc. Besides being another Melanie, this lady has a special place in my heart. Her gregarious lau...gh, infectious smile and unwavering commitment to serve our community inspires me. She is also the very first person that says YES when I started my very first 30 videos in 30 days, before Discover Fort McMurray. And since then, every time I want to do something about shopping locally, she is always on board. For that, I am eternally grateful! If you haven't been to this shop, you will be delighted to find so many great things for every occasion and season: home decor, candles, gourmet food, and of course the most amazing chocolate! This place is magical! For those of you that have forgotten, it's time to check her out again! She's behind Boston Pizza and in the same plaza as Yvonne Lauren. AND OF COURSE! Her staff is amazing! Tell me your favourite thing about the shop and what you love about our beautiful miss Melanie. I'd even love to see some things you have bought from there! See more

DAY 7 of 30 Nathalie Bérubé Jaindl is the owner of two stores that are now one because of the flood in April Benjamin Moore - Absolute Serendipity. I first met... her in 2015 when she was running her business out of her home with several lines of furniture paint. She is an incredibly talented furniture refurbisher, teacher and local business owner. Many of you have probably taken classes at her shop. She took over the Benjamin Moore shop which has made her Fort McMurray's Queen of Paint! You will find her supporting local business as she carries some of their product her her store. I'm grateful to her guidance as a year ago I took on painting my kitchen cabinets. I was so worried about it. With her guidance on colour, paint choice and technique we took it on. I wish I did it sooner, I absolutely (my pun) love my kitchen. I even made a sparkle paint feature wall in my office. She is also the brain child of the moonlight madness and has been my partner for running several of them. She is amazing, strong and brave. Thank you for being so supportive of the shop local initiatives. It's been a year for her and her staff. There was several feet of water at the Benjamin Moore location during the flood in April, which is now closed. The stores have merged at Absolute Serendipity which is located on Franklin just north of River City Centre. They do curb side pick up, delivery in town and are open. Share a photo of a project that you've done there, furniture you have painted or did you paint your cabinets? Or tell me about your love of this place!

POSITIVE OUTLOOK FOR OUR ENERGY SECTOR IN 2021 The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) forecasts companies will increase their capital expenditures by 12 per cent this year to almost $27 billion, up from about $24 billion last year. That includes higher spending by both oilsands operators and conventional oil and gas producers, which should lead to more drilling activity and potentially more jobs. We view 2021 from an optimistic perspective that it would be a ...recovery year, CAPP vice-president Ben Brunnen said Monday. An extra $2 billion of investment into the Western Canadian economies, relative to 2020, I’d say is a pretty significant vote of confidence there will be some stability and recovery in energy markets. ...there is a sense that with COVID-19 vaccinations underway, global economies will grow, energy demand will slowly increase and prices should strengthen through 2021." THE GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS REPORT - SPECIAL EDITION 2020 How Countries are Performing on the Road to Recovery? The combined health and economic shocks of 2020 have impacted the livelihoods of millions... of households, disrupted business activities, and exposed the fault lines in today’s social protection and healthcare systems. The crisis has also further accelerated the effects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on trade, skills, digitization, competition and employment, and highlighted the disconnect between our economic systems and societal resilience. In this moment, it is crucial to not only reflect on how best to return to growth, but also, how to build back better economies that improve outcomes for people and the planet. This special edition of the Global Competitiveness Report provides the basis to support such deeper reflection, providing policymakers with priorities across three timeframes: those priorities that emerged from before the crisis, those priorities that are critical for the shorter term revival, and those priorities that are essential for longer term transformation for better outcomes on shared prosperity and sustainability in the future. We hope this Special Edition of the Global Competitiveness Report will serve as a call to action to engage in the visionary and bold leadership required to build a new economic agenda for growing, productive, sustainable and inclusive economies that provide opportunities for all. This historic moment demands nothing less. Read the report here: http://www3.weforum.org//WEF_TheGlobalCompetitivenessRepor See more
