Essential oils and pets....Something I get asked about a lot as an aromatherapist. Using essential oils with animals is actually an extra certification and requires more training but I can share some personal experience. Proceed with caution. The list of oils to avoid with dogs is big and for cats, even bigger. My poor girl has now had two allergic reactions resulting in hives, agitation and general discomfort from utilizing oils. Even educated I still need to be mindful of t...he following tips: 1. Don’t diffuse or burn candles for many hours during the day. Use the intermittent setting on a diffuser or stop it every couple hours for a break. 2. Only use a couple drops in a diffuser. 3. Familiarize yourself with safe pet oils (give me a shout if you’d like some info) 4. Keep some antihistamines on hand for when you forget to follow your own rules See more

"I have always believed that it is important for aromatherapy to move out of the realm of quack medicine and to be established as a viable modality. It is really not helpful to this process when claims are made for essential oils that have no established clinical basis. This may help to sell more essential oils, but it also undermines the validity of using them in healing. This has been highlighted with the current pandemic. Using essential oils is one thing, but claiming t...hat any are viable treatments is quite another. When exactly does sharing information cross a red line? Unfortunately, it’s not simple." https://tisserandinstitute.org/covid-19-and-unfounded-clai/
