Wishing you and your family a joy-filled Christmas!
In honour of Bell Let's Talk, I wanted to share my own journey. It is because of this journey that I am so passionate about sharing tools for mental health with children and youth, and that I finally have a way I can sum up how I am here: Keitumetse. This name, meaning "I am happy" is the name that was blessed to me when I lived, worked and studied in Botswana. For me it is reflective of all I have gone through, learned, and practiced to truly embody my own "I am happy." Beca...use the truth is, for many of us, finding our happy is something that takes practice, as well as a team to support our practice. Sometimes obstacles, circumstances or perceived abilities seem too great to reach our happy and to find success in our journey for mental health. But I know that with the right tools, and the right team, each and every child has this opportunity. So, adults, please continue to choose to be on their team...and thank you to all who have been on mine <3 See more

Emotional expression is so important for both boys and girls. We try to help kids learn how to regulate their emotions and express them in healthy ways in our classes. It's wonderful to see research come out to support this!
It's so exciting to see two people we truly admire collaborate!

What a great way to get your kids ready for a new year of school and remind them about being kind to each other! #SpreadKindness
We love this quote because it is so true! We see it in our students - the kindness and compassion. "Human beings come into the world with innate, basic goodness. When we engage in practices that are designed to cultivate kindness and compassion, we’re not actually creating something de novowe’re not actually creating something that didn’t already exist. What we’re doing is recognizing, strengthening, and nurturing a quality that was there from the outset."

"Personhood before togetherness - this is what nature intended and what we need to make room for. We need to play midwife to a child's growth as a separate self and protect against societal and cultural pressures that demand young kids will get it right all the time."
We couldn't agree more. "In other words, babies and children begin learning to be kind by being treated with kindness and loving care through their early relationship with you." Thank you Dr. Vanessa Lapointe for this read.
There is so much truth in this as we've witnessed in our classes our students' ability to express themselves and be creative. "Play is where the spirit that underlies. Growth is revealed and vitality and expressed. Play is the act of self creation." ... #WednesdayWisdom

A beautifully written article about a mother helping her daughter navigate the world as a perfectionist. By helping her, she learns from her daughter too and a connection is built between the two of them. We find that as teachers, we are often our student's student too. http://www.npr.org//a-mother-finds-joy-in-helping-a-child-
