Yoga On The Park 11.02.2021

RESTORATIVE YOGA SESSION with Julie Insomnia and bad dreams or the inability to stay awake and focused? Edgy and irritable or sloth and torpor? Compulsive behavior or lack of motivation? Weight gain or weight loss? Problems concentrating? Mood swings?... For eleven months we have been living in a new abnormal, missing many of the things we once took for granted. Missing well-worn routines, missing friends and family, missing physical human contact. Restorative yoga cannot offer a cure for whatever symptoms you are experiencing but it can give you some moments of rest. Sometimes called ‘dynamic sleep'. A chance to let go of the daily patterns, let go of what worries you have, let go of any responsibility for two precious hours. Some of us may be finding other, less healthful ways to numb our symptoms. However, after a restorative session there will be no regrets and no negative side effects. You will sleep better and wake up energized and refreshed. This session will offer 1 hours of fully supported, long held postures while nurturing a state of conscious stillness. The result will be, not a stretch, but an opening. During the last hour, there will be a guided meditation, a yoga Nidra. Both the postures and the meditation are designed to release the ‘flight or fight’ response (sympathetic nervous system) and bring us to the physical/emotional calm available by accessing the para-sympathetic nervous system. Sunday, February 28th, 2-4:00 pm; $20 To register: go to https://yogaonthepark.ca/ndg-workshops-and-events/ or email us [email protected]

A different kind of practice....

Yoga On The Park 07.11.2020

We began this journey together 8 months ago. It has been awful, challenging, frightening. It has been exciting. We learned a lot of new language and new ways of living our lives. A new normal. Faced with physical distancing we went online. We stayed home. We coped. Then the summer came, and we were like schoolchildren suddenly released on that last day of classes. We partied if still distancing. We wore masks. But the sunshine and socializing seemed like it could go on forev...er. Now we are entering another phase. We see the end of this dark tunnel, but we recognize that it will be a long one. The fear and anxiety are back. AND WE ARE WEARY! But we need our strength and resolve again. We must work on our resiliency, and our vigilant focus to get through. Our ability to delay gratification must be exercised. Many of us grew up in leaner, less affluent, less mobile times. We've got this! We’ll need wisdom and strength to reach the other side.

TEACHER FEATURE: Malcolm McLean Malcolm, RYT, offers yoga classes inspired by an eclectic yoga practice and study over many decades. Each movement and posture is introduced with breath and alignment, cues. Options are given for both gentler and more challenging variations of postures; students can adapt the practice to their needs. Intention: through effort, stretching, balancing, conscious breathing to bring the body to ease, the breath to steadiness, and the mind to a mome...nt of stillness. Some mentors, teachers, and influences: Mark Stephens, Mollie Lawson, Robin Golt, Gérard Arnaud, Leslie Kaminoff, Alison Ulan, Mark Darby, Kelly McGrath and Cathy Cozens. Registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance since 2003, also certified in Yoga for Seniors (Yoga Sanctuary) and Principle-Based Partner Yoga (Elysabeth Williamson).
