Let the magic unfold Watch with glittering eyes the whole world because the greatest offerings are often hidden in the most unlikely of spaces.

Yoga Santosha, Calgary 08.01.2021

Honor the Beginning Beginnings can be delicate or explosive. They can start almost invisibly or arrive with a big bang. Beginnings hold the promise of new lessons to be learned, new territory to be explored, and old lessons to be recalled, practiced, and appreciated.... Beginnings hold ambiguity, promise, fear, and hope. Don’t let the lessons, the experiences of the past, dampen your enthusiasm for beginnings. Just because it’s been hard doesn’t mean it will always be that difficult. Don’t let the heartbreaks of the past cause you to become cynical, close you off to life’s magic and promise. Open yourself wide to all that the universe has to say. Let yourself begin anew. Pack your bags. Choose carefully what you bring, because packing is an important ritual. Take long some humility and the lessons of the past. Toss in some curiosity and excitement and what you haven’t yet learned. Say your good-byes to whose you’re leaving behind. Don’t worry who you will meet or where you will go. The way has been prepared. The people you are to meet will be expecting you. A new journey has begun. Let it be magical. Let it unfold. All parts of the journey are sacred and holy. Take time now to honor the beginning. ~ Melody Beattie

Thankful for our teachers. Thankful for our students. Our community, sacred and connected.... Our teachers, radiant beings that continue to guide in front of a light and a camera, speaking into a microphone and leading heartfelt yoga practices. Showing up. Again and again. Bringing us home. Our students, dedicated and ever present lights that continue to unroll their mats. They have kept us alive in the midst of some very challenging days. They remind us that this practice is integral and necessary. Our heartfelt gratitude to our community, both teachers and students.

Being able to connect in this virtual realm is a gift. As teachers we come into a room and turn on a camera and lights, we put on our microphone and share. When we look up at the computer screen, we see boxes-a snapshot of video for each person that has entered the studio space. ... Our hearts swell when we can see you. We know you are there and yet when we can see you something shifts. There is a little lift of sweetness, of connection, of being seen. Don’t take this as a must. There are so many reasons why it’s preferred to keep the video off. Some of our computers don’t even have cameras. Some days, all days we need the space for us. Knowing you are there, sharing, breathing, moving, being, is the gift. And if you can and if fits and works we would LOVE to see see you.

CLOSED BUT STILL OPEN Feeling all the feels as we move into a VIRTUAL COMMUNITY for the next two weeks. One of the predominant ones is gratitude. Gratitude that we can still share yoga and connect as a community. Our virtual schedule will be on line as of midnight tonight. We will begin live streaming from both of our locations. Yes! The virtual realm will now include classes from our Kensington location as well as Mission. ... We are adding many new classes, including a couple of early mornings to the roster. Every teacher between both studios is still on the schedule. It means everything to us to still stay connected and continue to hold space together. It has been such a gift to see so many of you back in the studio spaces with us over the last months. It has been uplifting for our hearts. We also appreciate all the comments from our community saying how safe they felt practicing in-person with all of the extra safety measures we have implemented. We are really proud of our staff for all of the extra work, above and beyond their normal duties, to make sure you are all safe. Your support in the last months is what has sustained us through this. We could not have done this without you. We continue to be humbled by the outpouring from the Santosha community, our teachers, and our karma staff. We know this is one more obstacle that we can conquer together. Know that we are here for you. We will do our best to answer all questions and keep you updated as things evolve. Now more than ever, mind and body connection is fundamental to our health. We are committed to keeping the sacred space of Santosha alive.

Candace Cooke is one of the lead teachers of Yoga Santoshas 200 HR YTT. I feel that I am most passionate about teaching teacher trainings. I can teach them the asana (pose) but then go much deeper than the physical postures. I like the transformational experiences that the students go through with us, seeing them come to new breakthroughs, new ways of thinking, pushing through new boundaries that they didnt think were possible. Ahhh, that is where my bliss lies I just lo...ve that part! I love collaborating with my fellow teachers from the trainings as well, it is really inspiring to me to work along side them and integrate their thoughts and ideas. Candace teaches from a place of knowledge, and compassion. She gives everyone the space to be themselves, which in turn allows them to grow and to blossom. There is only 1 spot left for our training that starts September 11.

There is a voice that criticizes, labels, and judges. Dont follow it. There is a voice that softly whispers kindness, praise, and gratitude. Follow it. Applaud it. Repeat.... Cultivate the sweetest kindest gentlest words for yourself. The thing is, they will spill out to everyone. What we plant, we grow. Plant some love. For you first.

Ready to take the leap? We only have a few spots left for our next 200 hr YTT Teacher Training. Its a 3 month semi- intensive that begins on Friday September 11th. In the midst of all that is happening, diving into myself, finding my voice with more authenticity, leading, taking the time to reflect, learning yoga philosophy, anatomy, postures and how to teach feels like such a light and exciting opportunity. In a time where things feel somewhat isolated I cant wait to con...nect with my fellow students, teachers and of course more deeply with myself! I dont feel fully ready. I have learned thats sometimes the best place to start from! So I wanted to say a deep heart felt thank you Yoga Santosha for still running this program. The Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) has been on my bucket list ever since I started my yoga journey 8 years ago. Its fitting that I landed at Yoga Santosha as my journey began with Bodhi Tree (Now Yoga Santosha Kensington). My only regret? I didnt listen to that inner voice that was nagging me all these years. For me, Santoshas philosophy of accessibility always resonated with me. It wasnt about looking like a model on the cover of a yoga magazine nor was it about some e...litist club. It was always about how anyone could approach yoga from any entry point and fall in love with yoga, learning to be kind and gracious to your heart, your mind, your soul, and your body. I eventually took a package from my job of 10 years and felt that this was the time to take the plunge. I met with Candace for tea and I instantly fell in love with her passion, her kindness, and her philosophy for the YTT program. This course is about teaching, and unlike other trainings Ive been at and heard about, this program is all about making you a better a teacher. On the first weekend, we were already teaching the whole class their first Sun Salutation. Their emphasis on having and open mind and being gracious and open to one another set the tone and created the space for us to learn and absorb in a safe environment. If youre anything like me, (Im a very slow processor), the 3 month or 6 month program is perfect because it allowed me the time to process and digest the information. You will love all 4 of the instructors. Candace, Lisa W, Lisa T, Curran, all provide their expertise, their passion, and their unique personality that not only spices things up, but gives you a greater appreciation that we are better together. Dont wait! Just sign up. You wont regret it. ~ Garry Ong Garry Ong your passion, your authenticity, your wit, and your sparkling heart added so much to our YTT group. You are a true teacher. Yoga for me has always been a very personal practice, a way for me to find balance and reconnect with myself on regular basis. In the summer of 2019, I made the decision to deepen my yoga practice and complete my 200hr teacher training so that I could share my love of yoga with others. At Yoga Santosha, not only did I find a special community in the other students that were taking this journey with me but I felt extremely fortunate to be guided by such passionate instructo...rs. Saying that Candace, Lisa T., Curran and Lisa W. are absolutely amazing is without a doubt an understatement. They brought a wealth of knowledge to every class; the kind of knowledge years of hands on experience in their own area of expertise brings. Now looking back on my experience, its amazing to see how far they brought each, and everyone, of us. The tools they gave us during our 200 hours gave me the courage to start up a small yoga community of my own; they enabled me to find my voice and gave me the courage to take the next step. ~ Maria Webb Maria you are a gift, a treasure, and a light. Your courage and passion, your strength and tenacity, your ability to show up with such wisdom and grace, your ability to step out there and say YES is beyond measure. We adore you.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love. Truth. Where do we find it? How do we spread it?... More and more I realize its through ourselves and to ourselves first. Embracing all the bits and pieces that make us who we are. Really loving them, like squeezing them with such a sweetness. What part of you could you just love up? What parts of you could you start to say a hello to and treat with a little more kindness and compassion? Baby crawls. Then it will grow. Giant steps. Giant leaps. We need you. The world needs you. Love, sweet love.

Santosha Virtual Sharings <3 On-line classes at Yoga Santosha have helped save me from driving myself and my husband totally crazy. Just seeing on Zoom all the wonderful yoga teachers calmed my nerves in the early days of Covid 19 social distancing. In no time all the teachers were Hollywood movie caliber -actually better. The sequences were fun and varied, and it felt almost like a private class in the comfort of our home without having to vacuum or brush our hair. The cla...sses help provide much needed structure to my day. For example, if I have yoga at noon I should not eat 3 chocolate bars at 11:00am. At the end of class it is fun to leave chat comments on Zoom and wave wildly at the wonderful teacher. Our 12 year old lab wags her tail excitedly in faster flow classes, and she practices noisy yogic breathing in our Saturday 4:00pm yin restorative. One unexpected bonus-yesterday I nailed a yoga pose that has eluded me for years, and my thighs feel almost as strong as steel (almost being the operative word). One other unexpected bonus -this one enjoyed by my hubby John. It used to be that he enjoyed lovely silence for 10 minutes while I meditated each day. Thanks to Currans excellent on-line meditation course, I now gift to John 1/2 hour peace and quiet each day-and imagine what further gifts may come his way once the course is complete. Thank you to Alastair, Candace, and all the amazing teachers. I want to name each and every teacher as you are absolutely knowledgeable, brave to take on the new medium, and incredibly adroit at connecting with your students across the wires. Thank you from the bottom of my heart-and hubby John says thank you too. ~ Deni

Yoga Santosha, Calgary 06.11.2019

Santosha Virtual Sharings I came back to teaching 4 months to the day from my maternity leave, at the beginning of March. After the birth of my son and spending nearly every moment (waking and not) with him, I had a lot of anxiety about leaving and was questioning if I was really ready. My first week back, he had his first illness (just a cold thankfully) which still broke my heart, but I started back up with my classes, tears, pumping between, and all. ... Two weeks later, the studio closed. Of course, this was exactly at the time I realized how much I treasured having that time away from my baby, for me to be in service to a community who held and supported me during my pregnancy (and continues to through this new adventure as a mother!), and to honour my passion for exploration and teaching yoga. The initiation into motherhood came with an overwhelming sense of losing my identity as an individual, and returning to the studio was a beautiful way of reclaiming pieces of that. That being said, I am deeply grateful that now Ive been gifted essentially an extended maternity leave, as I know Ill never get this time with my son back. Hes 5 months, already 19lbs and in the 100th percentile for height, so even just his physical growth is a constant reminder of how quickly things change. And Im equally grateful for the Friday evening class Im teaching live-stream. Those moments I get to sneak away, come to an empty space, relax and then share that time with the community are precious to me. I miss seeing everyone in person, but Im reminding myself how lucky we are to have the technology to come together in some form. THANK YOU, so so much, to everyone who has tuned in to my classes - you are an integral part of my path, and know that by supporting me in doing something I love, youre also helping me set an important example for my son about balance, and finding what lights you up then pouring your heart into it. ~ Lauren Hankewich

Yoga Santosha, Calgary 21.10.2019

Santosha Virtual Sharings Sometimes I feel like technology and the digital world will be the end of us. I feel sadness for children who dont know how to play with a cardboard box and a wood spoon and opt instead of screens and apps. And yet in this time of existence in our human experience, we cannot deny how much technology has also helped to create a space for us when we literally cannot participate in the tangible touch of things. I miss my family, my friends, the stud...io and the community that resides there. I miss hugs and being closer than 2 metres to any given person while going about my day. High fives and smiles you can see. And amidst the chaos of uncertainty, technology and the digital world has held space for us in so many ways. The physical space of things, the touch of things, so important. But when we are unable to explore those areas of existence, our online community has shone through. I cried the first class I did digitally with my Santosha family. I could literally feel everyone through the airwaves. I could hear when you laughed. I felt when we took a collective breath and when we sighed together. I could see you even if your video sharing was turned off, behind my closed eyes. You were in my heart and we were in a shared space. And we still are. Live-stream classes, digital sharing, social media - all of these things are a visible representation of the energy that ties us together. Sometimes we forget that even without these things, in the face of chaos, we are still connected. When we cant see or hear or touch something, we forget. But its still there. Even if I cant see you, the air I breathe is air you breathe. Even if I cant hear you, we are all echoing in the universe. Even if I cant hug you, I feel you in my heart. Seeing your faces on a screen, hearing our teachers guide us through our practice, waving at one another even if I didnt really know you at the studio, really being together - these simple, beautiful reminders keep me grounded. Thank you, to the studio, to the community, to the innovation of humankind, for giving us these gifts and reminders of how connected we truly are. ~Kim

When Im teaching I feel a sense of normalcy and these days have become my favorite time of the week.... Sure Im teaching into a camera, which at first felt super strange but now seems somewhat normal; and, I dont share the room with you, but I do get to share something pretty sweet with you: time for yoga. We may not be in the same room, but I do get to see some of you (if your camera is on) when you first arrive and at the end of the class and this truly makes my day! I didnt realize what a huge part of my life it is to see you, talk to you or share a hugthis is what I miss the most. However, when Im teaching in the virtual realm, I can feel you there with me - moving and breathing with me. And when I glance over to the monitor I can see some of you there; all this fills my heart with joy! A few weeks back, I was listening to CBC radio and they posed the question, What wont you take for granted when things go back to normal? So many things came to mind; hugging my parents, seeing my friends, visiting my favorite coffee shop for a tea lattebut one of my first thoughts was seeing my yoga community everyday. Ive always valued our community but since Ive been teaching for over 10 years now, I may have taken for granted that it would always be there I will never do that again. Spending time with our community at Yoga Santosha is the highlight of my day. So thank you for showing up and practicing with me. Stay safe. Be well. With Gratitude, Dawn Bayers
