MEDITATION & RELAXATION It is a common belief that one does meditation in order to relax. Thus, it is common for a person who is new to meditation to have a p...reconception that meditation and relaxation are the same thing. However, the state of mediation and the state of relaxation are actually different. So, what's the difference? Relaxation is the process of relieving the tension in your body and in your muscular and nervous systems with the help of different psycho-physiological techniques. A good example of such an exercise is a yogic technique which is performed while lying on your back in the Shavasana pose (also known as the corpse pose or the deep relaxation pose). The pose has such a name for a reason: a corpse has no concerns, no anxiety. While lying down in the Shavasana pose, a person accepts the idea that at this moment he is dead for all kinds of troubles and worries. He eases up completely, stops paying attention to anything exterior and releases control over all of his internal mental processes. Relaxation is an easy and enjoyable practice during which one can get his body completely relieved of tension and feel as though all his muscles have been spilt all over the floor like water. During meditation, the body is seated. While the body is loosened up, a few back muscles are still active. These muscles have to keep a straight posture which is important for meditation. While doing this, the mind is completely mobilized trying to use all of its potential to focus on the elevated idea.
