Spirit Week in the Senior School kicks off with Twin Day!
At York House School, we dream of possibilities. Support for the Annual Giving Campaign from our community provides the energy to fuel these dreams and bring them to life. Our Yorkies benefit directly from the impact of your generosity each and every day. This important appeal for our school continually enhances the learning experiences and access to resources for every student at YHS. Every year, the Annual Giving campaign is the opportunity for our community to come together and reach our goal of 100% participation. We are grateful to everyone who has already donated to the campaign this year - thank you! If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate we appreciate and encourage your consideration to create new possibilities at York House. https://www.yorkhouse.ca/support-yhs/annual-giving #myYHS
Grade 12s creating and crafting personalized holiday ornaments in TAG (Teacher Advisory Group). A wonderful annual 12H2 tradition since these Yorkies started Senior School five years ago! #myYHS
The Junior School found a way to combine our heartwarming Food Bank Frenzy House Event with a fun festive activity. Each time a student brought two items for the Food Bank they were able to add a decoration in their House Colour. The doors are coming along very nicely! #myYHS
Bianca (Grade 11), our Cat’s Meow recitations winner from 2019-20, has gone on to win the Canadian first prize in a national competition for her Medea monologue submission. English teacher Dr. Lesk encouraged Bianca to enter the university and high school student competition called Playing Medea, operated through Out of Chaos Theatre (UK), and supported by The Society for Classical Studies, The Classical Association, and the Centre for Hellenic Studies. Congratulations, Bianca! #myYHS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsAvwFForM8

Our Grade 7s had the opportunity to paddle voyageur canoes with Ridge Wilderness Adventure. Each class explored a different location in the Vancouver area including Pitt Meadows and Rocky Point Park. They learned the Eagle Stroke, Voyageur salute, and about local flora and fauna, tides, and working together to have an epic canoe race. Some students saw vast wetlands for birds and the peaks of Pinecone Burke Park. Others learned about outdoor tarp shelter building, knots, first aid, and spied some seals and jellyfish too! #YHSOutdoorEd #myYHS
Here are some of our Senior Kindergarten students donating canned food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Drive led by our Grade 7 Leaders and Ms. Marcotte. Many of our families donated canned foods to distribute to the community. We want to thank everyone for their support! #myYHS #YHSInThisTogether
Our Grade 8s participated in two Outdoor Ed adventures this week. The first group had a successful day of canoeing at Pitt Lake. We were very impressed with their attitude and spirit, many laughs were had despite being stuck in the mud! The adventure continued with the second group heading to Rocky Point for a voyageur canoe trip with @RidgeWildernessAdventures. #YHSOutdoorEd #myYHS
This year YHS honoured veterans and their sacrifice for our freedom with a special virtual Remembrance Day ceremony. Emceed by Catherine and Elizabeth in Grade 7, this assembly featured performances by our band, Grade 5 music students, our vocal ensemble Ragazza, as well as a solo performance by Alycia in Grade 10, and a moving poem by poet laureate Millie in Grade 12. A special thank you to our music teachers, Ms. Haylett, Ms. Jung, and Ms. Ninan as well as English teacher Ms. O’Connor and Grade 7 teacher Ms. Marcotte. #myYHS #lestweforget #RemembranceDay2020

The Grade 2s had a remarkable "Forest Day" at Pacific Spirit Park on Monday, with our Outdoor Ed Coordinator, Hahn Vincent. #YHSOutdoorEd #myYHS
This year marked the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. We have typically led a YHS run/walk in the neighborhood as a whole school community. Due to COVID-19, our Terry Fox Run was held in small groups during our PHE (Physical & Health Education) classes on September 29th and 30th. We were delighted that we were still able to join together as a YHS community to support the Terry Fox Foundation, an organization that supports cancer research, and honours the people we know and have known and loved who have lived with cancer. #myYHS #TerryFoxRun @TheTerryFoxFoundation
Take a peek at our new STEAM lab in the Senior School. This is a place where our Yorkies have access to all the tools and resources they need to explore problems. This new spacefunded exclusively through the generous support of our communityis a hub where students can explore a problem, engage in research, generate ideas, take risks, prototype, and construct solutions that draw on the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). #STEAM #myYHS #YHSsteam
