Why should I replace my large fillings to crowns? Crowns could prevent the teeth from fracturing. Large fillings do not protect the teeth as well as crowns do. Those gaps between the old fillings and the teeth allow the bateria to enter the teeth and cause infection. If the fillings are more than 2/3 of the width of the teeth, we recommend that they be crowned. They will prolong the life of your teeth. In most cases when teeth fracture vertically, they become irreparable.
