When makeup is applied too closely to the edge of your eyelids (where the eyelashes grow, also known as the waterline), it can actually block the meibomian glands (the ones that lubricate) and leave your eyes dry and irritated. In more severe cases, you can give yourself conjunctivitis or stye! So, to maintain healthy eyes: Develop a good makeup routine - remove any makeup before bed ... Avoid applying right at the base of the waterline - it can also enter your tear film and go on to the surface of your eyes. Dispose old makeup - bacteria loves to breed in moist environments, so toss out your old products! Don't share makeup products - sharing cosmetic tools increases the risk of infection. #DYK #Ocular #Optometrists #Prevention #VisionProblem #Ocular #EyesMatter #Optometry #EyeHealth #EyeEducation #EyeCare #Ocular #EyeLearn #Makeup #GoodHygiene #Eyelashes #Waterline #Eyeliner See more

The "eye puff" test is more than just a test. It measures the pressure of the fluid inside your eyes (AKA intraocular pressure). Measuring the eye pressure is an important component of a complete eye health check up. Tips to getting better at the "eye puff" test: - take deep breaths - wear loose clothing around the neck... - sit upright - blink and focus on the light #memes #eyepuff #vision #Optometry #Optometrists #optometrycanada #optometrymemes #funfact #funtimes #funny See more

What number do you see? The Ishihara Test consists of colored dotted plates that quickly and accurately assess color vision deficiency. A person with a red-green deficiency may see a different number, or none at all.... If you don't see a number, it might be time to schedule an eye exam with your local optometrist. #EyeLearn #Optometrists #Prevention #VisionProblem #Ocular #EyesMatter #Optometry #EyeHealth #DYK #EyeEducation #EyeCare #Ocular See more

#DYK that when we stare at our computer screens, tablets, and phones, we forget to blink? We have tiny glands in the eyelids called meibomian glands that squirt oil to the surface of the eye, every time we blink! The less we blink, the faster our eyes dry out, until the consistency of the tears change. They can become more acid, and further irritate the eye's surface. So keep winking and blinking away, and always remember the 20-20-20 rule ... 20 second break from 20 minute screen time to look at an object 20 feet away. #DYK #Optometrists #Prevention #VisionProblem #Ocular #EyesMatter #Optometry #EyeHealth #EyeEducation @ontariooptometrists #digitalgadget See more

As we age, the lenses in our eyes gradually harden and lose the ability to focus on things up close, causing Presbyopia (usually around the age of 40). This is when we require a reading correction! They come in two types of lenses: bifocal and progressive. Bifocals lenses have a visible line that separates the near (also known as the ADD) and the distance prescriptions. Progressive lenses allow you to see at three distances: distance, intermediate, and near. Ther...e are no dividing lines so they will take more time to adjust to them. Everyone will have different visual needs, so it is not a one size fits all. Speak to your optometrist to see which one would suit you best. #EyeHealth #EyeEducation #Vision #HealthCare #agingprocess #Optometrists #Ocular #EyeCare #EyeLearn See more

In a world of technology, kids are spending less and less time outdoors. A study from the Center for Ocular Research and Education at the University of Waterloo found that children from gr. 1-12 who spent around 76 minutes per day outside obtained a 50% reduction in myopia. Remember the 20-20-20 rule 20 second break from 20 minute screen time to look at an object 20 feet away. #EyeEducation #CAO #OAO #optometry #KidsHealth #EyesMatter #prevention @ontariooptometrists #optometrycanada #eye #outdoors #nature
