On Monday, Jan. 18, we will celebrate Mark Cross. In honour of our No. 18, we are looking for support in one of the following ways: - Donate $18 (or a multiple of $18) to the Mark Cross Memorial Fund - Record a video of 18 reps of an exercise of choice and post on social media, tagging @yorkulions and including the #MC18 hashtag - Take a selfie wearing MC18 gear and post on social media, tagging @yorkulions and including the #MC18 hashtag... - Talk about how you live out the CROSS pillars of character, respect, optimism, sacrifice and selflessness and post on social media, tagging @yorkulions and including the #MC18 hashtag For more information, please visit: https://yorkulions.ca//varsity-athletics-mark-cross-memori
Shoutout to Sport Council for setting a new record by receiving $6500 for the Adopt-A-Family program! "This year, we wanted to ensure we could still facilitate the Adopt-a-Family program and brighten the holiday season of less fortunate members of our community even with the onset of the pandemic," said Tara Leithead, president of the York Sport Council. "We actually ended up fundraising even more than last year! We hope that we helped families in need have an amazing holiday season after this unprecedented year." SIGNING ALERT! @yorklionswbb is excited to welcome Alexis to the Lions family! #YorkU #LionPride
Congrats to @yulionsfootball Theo Brown and @yorkurugby Lauren Walter, who were named the York male and female student-athletes of the week! Brown, a first-year environmental studies and concurrent education student from Kingston, Ont., had a tremendous first semester in university. He has already proven to be a hard-working, dedicated student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom and the gym while showing early signs of a blossoming leader. He is a high-achieving, dilige...nt student who attends all study hall sessions and is acing his classes. He also hasn't missed a gym session, first in person and, more recently, posting regular videos of his at-home workouts. Walter is a graduate communications and culture student from St. Albert, Alta., who is also an executive on the York Sport Council. Her engagement excels in everything she does, specifically with important initiatives such as the Halloween for Hunger event and the Adopt-a-Family in December. She has a great depth of knowledge in social media and her creativity has been extremely helpful when designing what gets posted on the Sport Council channels to help promote the fundraising events. She is also a tremendous leader for the women's rugby team and its new coaching staff. #YorkU #LionPride
