Congratulations to Kristin. Kristin received her 6th degree blackbelt today. I am so proud of her, showing such quiet grace and form to the art of Uechi Ryu. Also congratulations to all that tested today

The Victor Swinimer Superempei Project Learn Superempei in Segmented Lessons Greetings to my martial arts family... After meeting a young man named Simon Lailey over 25 years ago and discovering through him, the possible lost 4th Kata of the Uechi system, my goal has been to make it an accepted part of Uechi-ryu. I asked Dr. William Glasheen, to create a well documented dvd, that others could use to learn the form. During the many years following Dr. Glasheen’s instructional DVD, a number of teachers and students have learned and practice the form. One of the most creative Superempei demonstrations, was performed by Canadian sensei, Victor Swinimer. Fortunately, since we lost Victor to Cancer a few years ago, three videos were taken of this demonstration. One of Victor’s students, Kristin Amirault, took the time and energy to learn the entire kata and sent me a video where she performed an excellent demonstration of what Victor had taught her. We talked about how we could introduce more people to Superempei and perhaps get a number of these individuals to learn it. As a member of my Mattson Academy Virtual Dojo, we discussed breaking the kata down to manageable sections, using my "segmented" teaching method, which has worked so well for teaching the Uechi-ryu on-line. Program. We decided to dedicate the project to Victor's memory and call it the Victor Swinimer Superempei Project. Step one is to make it free. Everyone likes free! Step two is to let them know how the program will work and what is expected from them and from Kris and me. Step three is to send everyone who signs up, the first week’s assignment, consisting of a detailed opening segment of the kata, with front, rear and side views. There will also be closeups of difficult hand movements and positions along with detailed descriptions of the techniques. The learning stage will be determined by the length and complexity of the segment. Most should be learned within one or two weeks' time. At the completion of an assignment, everyone participating in the experiment will meet on Zoom and as a group, will demonstrate the segment. Everyone who demonstrates the segment, will be sent the next video, along with the estimated time to learn it. When the program is completed, a beautiful accomplishment certificate will be issued to all who participated and completed the course. There will also be awards to the three individuals who do the best kata at the end of the course, to be judged by Facebook Uechi practitioners. OK, now it is up to you! If interested, please click the registration link and fill out the registration form before August 4th Registration LINK Sincerely, George Mattson Kristin Amirault
