Raise your hand if you want to change the world with yoga I wanted to change the world when I went to school for broadcasting & film so I could make an Oprah impact through the platform of television ... The talk-show Shayla vision was quickly put to a halt when I experienced a sudden loss in my life It was here that I fell into a deep depression It was here that I experienced panic attacks, PTSD, unhealthy coping mechanisms And it was here that I discovered yoga When I reflect back on some of the most meaningful times and classes during my healing with yoga I don’t remember the sequences that were taught, the alignment or the challenging arm balances I remember the teachers that SAW ME and HELD SPACE for me for allllll my mess I remember how they instilled real-life wisdom into their classes that I carried with me off my mat I remember how they made me FEEL All of which I have come to learn are main qualities of a Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Yoga did not change my life Yoga SAVED my life And for the last six years I have devoted myself to learning about and working with the mind-body connection working with private yoga and nutrition clients who are going through depression, anxiety, grief or battling addiction Yoga can truly be an effective method in recovering from trauma and I am on a mission to help others heal through movement and to work with Yoga Teachers and individuals to teach the life changing impact of trauma-informed yoga I want to change the world And I am a firm believer that yoga can do that My online 30 Hour Trauma-Informed YTT is launching next month in January And I’m offering free 30-minute calls to help you determine if this is the right training for you If you are ready to increase your impact through becoming trauma-informed just send me a DM or drop a commentand I’ll share next steps with you *Payment plans & two scholarships are available for this training DM me for more info Let’s chat. Let’s learn. Let’s change the world Mine to yours, See more

But if you’re like me, then maybe you got into yoga as a result from trauma and now you want to help others heal so you want to understand on a deeper level the WHY yoga is so impactful There continues to be more and more research on the benefits of yoga as a therapy tool (which is SO EXCITING) But for now, here are 3 ways yoga can help in overcoming trauma Mine to yours, Shay See more

YOGA TEACHER TRAININGS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE. That’s probably a big statement.... But an accurate one When you find the right teacher, the right training, that you resonate with - and trust me, you’ll know - WOWZA how great of an impact they can make Listen, I am a huuuuuge fan of talk-therapy but I have to say that a lot of my healing and breakthroughs have actually come from Yoga Teachers and trainings. There is something so powerful and authentic about Yoga Teachers who have been through their own ish and pull from experience to teach a heart-felt lesson-filled class or course. It’s an art. And it’s NEEDED. We need more Yoga Teachers. We need more Trauma-Informed Yoga Teachers. No the yoga market isn’t saturated and so what if it is? I’ll take an overflow of Trauma-Informed Yoga Teachers any day thank you We need more knowledge seeking change makers who want to make a difference in this world. Whether that difference is self-exploration and knowledge or in the form of helping others. I have taken three teacher trainings so far and they have been some of the BEST investments I have ever made beyond a professional level. Teacher trainings can serve like the life school you wish you received in real school (or is that just me? ) In my 30 hour online Trauma-Informed YTT yes you will learn the essentials of teaching through a trauma-informed lens BUT You will learn so much more about how this applies to real life everyday situations for you AND anyone you choose to teach. It’s a 6 week commitment for a lifetime of change. Comment or DM me if you are ready to learn more See more

We have all experienced trauma. Trauma can be defined as anything that overwhelms the brain and body’s ability to cope. ... That may differ from person to person but it has happened to almost every single one of us. We have the option to learn specifically trauma-informed yoga I believe that trauma-informed really means human-informed. And I also believe that ALL yoga should be trauma-informed. Yoga should be a safe space for everybody and teachers should be equipped with knowledge of what it means to be human. The light in me recognizes and bows to the light of you.. but ALSO The trauma in me recognizes and humbly bows to the trauma within you. I will save more deets on trauma-informed practices for another post.. But let’s talk about being human for a second What do I mean by being human informed when it comes to yoga? That everyone is fighting their own battle that you may know very little or nothing about AKA someone has their phone in the classroom because a loved one is in the hospital and not because they chose to ignore the no phone zone Adjustments and consent are DYNAMIC even if a person vocally says they are okay with hands-on, what does their body language say? Not everyone will feel the way a pose is designed to feel so being mindful of labelling what feels really good or so relaxing or amazing for your heart might not be true for some and may cause someone to question themselves and their body more than they already possibly do. AND IN FACT The thought of hoping that anything ever will might be causing you a great deal of suffering in the end. ... As human beings we become SO attached to: Other humans Experiences Ideas We are so attached to these things because it’s how we identify who we are. (Which yes is ironic because none of those things are what make you YOU) So we feel we NEED new beginnings to sometimes last forever because that feels safe. The thiiiingggg kiiiinddaaa sorrrttaaa issss.... Attachment = Suffering. Non-attachment = Peace. When you can enter into that new chapter of a relationship, friendship, job, home and NOT be pre-attached to the notion that it HAS to work out.. You can really learn to LIVE. AND feel so much lighter along the way holy moly!! So no, Not everything needs to last forever and that’s okay. See more

The what phase? I know. ... I see you. I hear you. I know you’re feeling stuck. I know you’re wondering if you are always going to feel this way. You’re doing all the right things The: Journaling Meditating Exercising Eating right But SOMETHING just isn’t connecting. That something? Is the INTEGRATION phase You can’t always logically work through things You actually need to get out of your head and FEEL into your body THAT is where the work is done. And you know you owe it to yourself to do this work. Enrolment for my next 8 week online course is opening up soon So far students in the current program have: Learned the importance of their mind-body connection and STRESS Learned how to handle real life when it triggers you (and it will) LEARNED HOW TO LISTEN TO THEIR BODIES (yes this deserves all caps because we do not take enough time caring about ourselves) So, you ready to take care of YOU? DM me to learn more about my 8 week course or how we can work together. See more

No one really tells you that huh? Healing requires WORK. ... Healing requires ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. Healing requires FEELING. Healing requires PAIN. Cue Coldplay plz Nobody said it was easy No one said it was easy but maybe no one also told you how effing hard it would be either so don’t you worry, I promise to never lie to you about that. I also promise to be your number 1 cheerleader & supporter along the way! When you’re dealing with a lot of anxiety as a result of pain and going through your healing process it can hurt A LOT and it can bring up so many emotions to work through that extend far beyond the initial surface wound. It’s hard. Really really hard. But worth it. Now cue Aladdin plz Do you trust me? What do I always say? I gotchu. And you got THIS. I’m here to support you when you’re ready to begin the work Mine to yours,

You are quite mistaken if you think you have moved on You haven’t moved on. ... You have moved THROUGH Moving on indicates that it is somehow left behind when in fact, whatever the situation may be it is now part of you and makes you who you are in one way or another. You have moved in spite of Because of But not moved on from any of it. And if you are currently in it continue to move. Moving through it isn’t easy, it requires letting go and doing the work. If you are feeling STUCK and need support in your moving through I gotchu. Through physical movement. Through coaching. Through support. You know I gotchu. Send me a DM to start our 1:1 work together See more
