oving Tip onday! Contracts! READ THEM!... Every moving company should be giving you a contract that outlines the terms and conditions for your move. Not only is it important you read this for your own security its imperative you read it for the companys policy in regards to many things! 1) Expectations: Moving companies can outline anything from how your boxes should be packed to what they will and will not move. For example, YCM does not move boxes that are not taped on the bottom and top! 2) Equipment: Some movers do not provide equipment. If you have large, cumbersome items, or 100s of boxes, not having a dolly will add extra time to your bill which equals money out of your pocket! 3) Payment: Every moving company is different. Some will want you to pay your bill after your items are loaded (this should be a red flag- FYI ), some when the job is complete (this is YCMs practice), others need a deposit before your move will even start, it will be outlined in your contract! 4) Liability: What are your movers going to cover if there is damage to your furniture or home? Do they have exceptions to what they cover? For example, most companies will not cover any damages to items in boxes that a customer packs. 5) Extra fees: Any extra costs will be in your contract. Did you know some moving companies charge extra for stairs, laying down floor protection, appliances, disassembly, shrink wrap, and equipment? Again this should be a red flag but all of these extra fees can be a real shock to you and your pocketbook if you havent done youre reading! If there is something you dont understand or you do not agree with in a contract DO NOT SIGN it!!! Always ask for clarification or an amendment. A piano dolly, four-wheeled dollies and straps are all required when moving a piano, if we dont know we might not have the right equipment!... 2) Safety: YCM wants you, your piano and our employees safe. Pianos can be dangerous to move if not professionally trained. We prepare your piano and home to prevent any damages during transport. 3) Additional fees: Moving a piano does require additional fees. The cost to move your piano will range from $200-500. We understand moving is stressful but it is important during these times to be clean and sanitary. 2) Do not invite extra people to help during your move. Please resist this temptation. From our experience extra hands= more task delegating for you which will increase your stress. With social distancing practices still enforced we ask ONLY people who live in the house be present and its preferred only one person present during move (unless otherwise discussed). 3) Keep your distance. Its habit to shake hands upon meeting someone but we are asking you give our crews their space. During these sunny days you can sit outside, or in your garage to allow our workers a safe environment. 4) Postpone your move if you are sick, have symptoms, or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive. We will always do our best to reschedule and accommodate your needs.
