Most shoes are worn out with 300 miles or 500km of use; which is great to know but most of us don’t track the mileage of each of our shoes. Here are some tips to help you recognize when you need to get rid of those shoes. If they look worn out; they are worn out! ... Where you use your footwear affects their life. If they are often used in moist damp environments (i.e. golf shoes on wet grass) or you sweat in them a lot (i.e. work boots) then they will have a shorter life span. Pain in your feet, knees, hips, or back may be a good indicator that your shoes are worn out. In fact any foot discomfort after you have been weight bearing for a period of time may suggest you need new shoes. If you feel the impact on your soles when your walking then the shock absorption nature of the shoe is gone and it’s time to et rid of them. Flip them over and look at the bottoms. If the treads are shot then the shoes are shot! If your are getting discomfort or pain from your footwear replace them and consider getting treatment to speed up your recovery.
It’s summer and it’s finally hot. Make sure your are consuming enough water. Dehydration affects your physical performance, this is just one reason it is so important to hydrate during sport activity. Your brain function is also greatly affected by changes in your hydration levels. This includes memory, mood, and level of fatigue. Hydration also helps to prevent headaches. Drinking water can also help with weight loss. Water increases your satiety (feeling full) encouraging you to eat few calories. This is more effective if you drink water a half hour before eating. Water also boosts your metabolic rate (how quickly your body is burning energy; this is more so if you drink cold water as your body burns more energy to heat the water to your bodies temperature.
