Recently, my student Chris, who has studied with me for two years, has discovered more about his exceptional voice. He started studying with me because he thought he sounded like a child on his voice mail. Our first vocal session was interesting. Chris didn’t have the confidence or ability to match a pitch with any kind of predictability. Over time we discovered his beautiful bass voice. He definitely does not sound like a child now. His rich, compelling, speaking voice ha...s given him the opportunity to do voice overs for the Calgary Immigrant Society. Last night we had an exciting lesson. He was able to sing a powerful song with a 21/2 octave range. Like all singers, he is not perfect but he is improving with every lesson. Quite a change from when we first started. Chris's response to my comments. Having Iris as my vocal coach has b rought a lot of wonderful changes to my life. I've spent many years sounding unsure whenever I spoke and never feeling happy with the quality of my voice. But now I am very confident in using my voice whenever I speak or sing. This new confidence has led me to joining a choir, volunteering to do voice overs and allowed me to meet many new friends. I will always be grateful to Iris for her patience, encouragement and knowledge. Without her I wouldn't have learned to appreciate my own voice and what it's capable of. I'm excited for what's next to come. Thank you Iris. ' This touching tribute has warmed my heart. How I love helping others find their voice. You might think that you can never sing or speak any differently than you do today. That is not the case. With correct vocal training, patience and a willingness to change you can improve your voice. It's such an exciting process. Worth all the time and effort to master a new skill.
