Due to the unforgiving nature of Cumbrian weather and my current lack of rain covering (gazebo will be here next week - yay), lots of paper booklets and general sitting outside might be a struggle between 10-12. If it clears up, up I'll pop down to goosenholme from 12 until 3 with the chocolate, pebble painting and some of the booklets. I'll also have a few frisbees/balls/games you can use in your own bubbles to play in the park that can be thoroughly cleaned before reuse! Fingers crossed, but if the weather fails us today, I'm planning on making this a weekly thing so watch this space and don't feel disheartened :)
Running out of ideas to entertain your young people? Due to a dramatic overprinting situation (we've all been there) I have an excess of booklets full of activities/websites/mindfulness/games ready just to pickup! Tomorrow I will be doing a 'Kit Kat Chit Chat' in Goosenholme park 10-2 (the lady with the tarp/red top/inflatable doughnuts...) so come and ask about our club and what we could do for you OR just pick up a couple of free booklets to help entertain the kids. Social... distancing will be observed and there will be hand gel next to the box of resources but no rummaging should be necessary. If you have a young person with a disability in Kendal who would like some support, I am now running 1:1 walks and activities to give them a couple of hours out in the sun/or rain (chalk paintings/bike riding/hot chocolate drinking - whatever they want!). We are also building up towards running inclusive outdoor craft/sport sessions in the park for young people to meet new friends and socialise after such a strange and unsettling beginning to the year. Contact the group for more details - OR I'll see you in Goosenholme tomorrow at 10-2!
The Great Get Together is a nationwide project that brings people together and unites communities, inspired by Jo Cox and her belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. We were supposed to have a big family festival this weekend to celebrate - but instead we're doing it online! Do you have a talent you can film and share for the county to enjoy!? This event is free and will involve lots of artists and activities that you can watch and join in with througho...ut the day We are still looking for videos/recordings of music sets or activities to fill the set - so if you have a talent you want to show off to entertain then send them to [email protected] to be included on the set list. If you would like a tribute picture of your most beloved key worker in the video we will be saying thank you to some of our heroes and so you can send that too! Including: Zumba with Laura Yoga with Margaret Football skills with Barrow afc Arts and crafts little rebels Mask making with Amanda Bands and Music Live kids quiz on the Friday 6pm and adult one 7pm https://facebook.com/events/s/the-great-get-together-communi/213755446679206/?ti=icl See more
A fabulous social story shared to us by one of our wonderful parents - amazing way to explain such a difficult subject so please share far and wide!
Happy Mental Health awareness week! This year it is even more crucial to look after ourselves and loved ones - and the theme is perfect... 'kindness'. Here's a cool pack of resources if you want to learn more: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk//MHAW20-Supporter-Pack_Fin... Or if you want an activity to do maybe think about trying out some random acts of kindness: https://www.coffeecupsandcrayons.com/100-acts-kindness-kids/ If you are struggling with your mental health at the moment and feel like you need more support or if you feel like you could support someone else having a hard time check out Beacon Lighthouse Community who are recruiting for helpers and there to talk if you need it. https://www.facebook.com/southlakesmentalhealth/ Stay happy, stay healthy and know that it is okay to not be okay!
Our YouthAbility video - sending our love to all of our young people and families around cumbria!
Be part of our video project for VE day - here's one of our members performing the song we will be doing - we'll meet again - and I'll post a slowed down tutorial soon :) ! https://www.facebook.com/YouthAbilityLeonardCheshire/videos/710191499725708/?sfnsn=scwspmo&extid=u9A8p1karT4K6opT&d=n&vh=e
Thank you to everyone who came along and played in our bingo evening and well done to the lucky winner! Tune in next week for another couple rounds :)
Did somebody say prize pizza, an hour of tense excitement and an array of custom bingo calls?
Are you are a young person age 8-30? Do you have any additional needs or disabilities? Do you live in Cumbria? If the answer to all three is yes, then we would be so grateful if you could fill out our quick 5 minute survey or share it along to someone you think it applies to! It is all about how young people with disabilities are coping and what we could design or do to help keep them safe, happy and connected. https://s.surveyplanet.com/ZWfwLQPVzW We are trying to find ne...w ways to support vulnerable young people throughout this pandemic, but want to make sure we are tailoring it to what you need and want! We are currently running online programmes of activities, life skills challenges/certificates, video projects and socials but are open to new members and new ideas! If you would like any information about our digital youth clubs, how to get involved or if you know of any young people with disabilities who might benefit from a friendly social group you can attach your email address to the survey or follow our public groups @Youthabilitybuzzclub and @YouthabilityLeonardCheshire on Facebook. We have a private/invite only group for club members where they can share photos/experiences and we can look at ways to get you involved once we have had a chat and got to know you!
If anyone is at a loss this evening I am editing a video together from YouthAbility (Leonard Cheshire) for Children in Need's 'Big Night in'. If you would like to be involved in the video record yourself singing or signing (in Makaton)along to Million Dreams from the greatest showman! Maybe even just the chorus if you don't have time, and I'll post a slowed down tutorial if you like this post and would like an example. You can either send the clips to my Facebook messenger Rachel Cadas or to [email protected]
