YouthForce Community 02.01.2021

Here is this week's YouthForce financial tip! . Another way to save some money is to take advantage of discounts. Many businesses, stores and restaurants offer a discounted student rate with proof of enrolment (student card, student discount cards/apps, etc.), which can turn into big savings for you! That’s especially true for some of the biggest... retailers across the country. Many outlets offer deep price cuts on everyday items, even if they don’t broadcast them. So what’s a student to do? If you’re not sure whether or not a store offers a discount, go ahead and ask. You may end up finding more deals than you were bargaining for. Remember to always carry your student ID! ! -- @. #YouthForce #KinbridgeYouth #TipsTuesday #FinancialTips #Galt #Cambridge #Cbridge Kinbridge Community Association Greenway Chaplin Community Centre @langs Carizon Family and Community Services RBC @regionofwaterloo Trillium Foundation

Here's this week's YouthForce financial tip... ? If it’s not something you need, take a week to think about it.... Will this purchase mess with your monthly budget? Will this purchase throw off your savings? How will this benefit your day-to-day life? Is the benefit worth the cost? Weigh the benefits to make sure it’s adding value to your life and not extra stress on your budget. If after the week you’ve forgotten about it, that’s a pretty good indicator that you didn’t actually need it. Getting into debt can be a vicious cycle that is tough to get out of and eating instant ramen noodles for 4 months after a vacation is probably not your idea of "living your best life". ! 226-752-9027 @. While a variety of elements go into being a successful employee, great customer service is centre-stage. Every interaction you as an employee has with a customer (or potential customer) can affect the business’ bottom line. Often, customer service is what separates employees that thrive in their job from those that are not as successful. : Be friendly.... Respond in a timely manner. Know your product or service. Listen to your customers. Say thank you. Get to know your customers. Ask for feedback. Use the feedback you receive. Focus on relationships. Today's Employment Tip from YouthForce talks about stress. As we head back into a new school year, many are feeling the pressures and stressors of facing an unusual year. So what is stress and how do we manage it? Stress is our body’s way of telling us that we’re struggling to cope with all of our demands or that we have to deal with a problem. Some stress isn’t a bad thing. It might give us the energy to finish a work project, for example. But too much stress is hard on our... bodies. It can cause physical problems like headaches and sleep problems. It affects the way our bodies fight infections like a cold, so we’re more likely to get sick when we’re stressed. Too much stress is also bad for our mental health. It can leave us feeling tired, irritable, or depressed. It affects our ability to think, concentrate and react. Day-to-day demands like going to school, making friends, fitting in and getting along with siblings are stressful. We may feel more stress at certain times, such as starting school, moving, experiencing changes in their body, or coping with illness or loss in the family. Ways we can decrease stress: Exercise and eat regularly. Get enough sleep and have a good sleep routine. Avoid excess caffeine which can increase feelings of anxiety and agitation. Avoid illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Learn relaxation exercises. Develop assertiveness skills. For example, state feelings in polite, firm, and not overly aggressive or passive ways: ("I feel angry when you yell at me. "Please stop yelling.) Learn practical coping skills. Decrease negative self-talk: challenge negative thoughts with alternative, neutral, or positive thoughts. Learn to feel good about doing a competent or "good enough job rather than demanding perfection from yourself and others. Take a break from stressful situations. Activities like listening to music, talking to a friend, drawing, writing, or spending time with a pet can reduce stress. Build a network of friends who help you cope in a positive way. Employment Tips Tuesday - Today YouthForce shares a tip about the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) is Ontario's cornerstone legislation for workplace health and safety. Created in 1970 the act ensures safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.... Did you know... Employers must ensure workers complete an awareness training program for workers as soon as possible, regardless of what sector they work in or their employment status (full-time, part-time, seasonal, etc.). This means that if you are a new employee, regardless of your age or experience in the workforce, you must receive appropriate safety awareness training in your workplace. Today's YouthForce employment tip is about interests. Have you ever really given any thought about your interests and how they might translate to employment opportunities? It might be simple for some to pinpoint their interests and related careers, but very often people just don't know where to start.... There are several ways to reflect and pinpoint some of your interests. Here are a couple of ideas: One simple task is to think of a time in your life where you did something really well, something that you felt confident doing, and left you feeling pretty proud in the end. Think about the situation, what part of it kept you engaged and interested? By thinking of such examples you can often pinpoint your true interests, which can sometimes go overlooked unless you really take that time to reflect. Another way to explore your interests is to do a career assessment in which you are completed a survey of you interests. By doing an assessment like this you will be given a list of potential careers to explore based on your interests. It's a great way to start your career exploration process! Are you between the ages of 15-29 and curious about exploring your interests and ideas for pursuing a career?
