Congratulations to Cree Delorme!! One of our Grade 10 students here at the YRHS. She won our Orange Shirt Day logo contest. Here is the Orange Shirt she designed!! So beautiful with so much meaning behind it. She's a young Cree lady from Cowessess First Nation, and you can see the reflection of her Cree ancestry in the floral design. Our ancestors that attended Residential School were made to wear the same uniform, which speaks to the story behind the Orange Shirt day orig...in and is reflected in the uniforms she drew. Every child in Residential School was assigned a number by which they were known by. In some instances those numbers were tattooed on them as well, which you can see in the numbers in the neck of the uniforms. And as a reflection of our school, we added our YRHS logo because we are in full support behind Orange Shirt Day and the honoring of our Residential School attendees. Great job Cree! We are proud of you! We have a very limited number of shirts available, and its on a first come, first serve basis. If we can print more we will. We can probably get more after Orange Shirt day as well so you can be ready for next year's Sept. 30th! Contact us if you would like one. We make no profit off the shirts and are selling them at cost. They are $15.00 each. Students and Staff of the YRHS do get priority however, and we only have 1 Medium, 6 Large, and 4 XL left. So students and staff! Contact us ASAP to grab the few left!!

In this photo you can see sweetgrass. Last week and this week is the proper time to pick it. This week with the heat may have made it too late already as some sweetgrass is beginning to dry already from the too hot sun. This is one thing we can't teach in school because of the late season school begins. Learning from the land is a daily and seasonal living practice that doesn't fit the academic system the way it is now. Maybe one day that will change.

In honour of Treaty Education Alliance affiliated schools, past and present, this video features drone footage and photo montages of students, schools and impor...tant land locations, highlighting our multi-year partnership program with the Nature Conservancy of Canada -- funded through Indigenous Services Canada's New Paths Innovation and Environment Canada’s Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk, along with generous contributions from SaskPower. With this video, TEA and NCC would like to honour and thank all students and staff for their engagement in the various Learning the Land projects and initiatives. The following schools and nations who took part are listed below, as they appear in the video: 1) White Bear Education Complex: White Bear First Nations (0:15 - 1:10) 2) asiniw-kisik Education Campus: Kawacatoose FN (1:10 - 2:10) 3) Muskowekwan School: Muskowekwan FN (2:10 - 3:25) 4) Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex: Cote FN (3:25 - 4:45) 5) Pheasants Rump Nakota First Nation: (4:45 - 5:45) 6) Ocean Man Education Center: Ocean Man FN (5:45 - 6:30) 7) Fishing Lake & Chief Sabatawasis School: Fishing Lake FN (6:30 - 8:20) 8) Keeseekoose Chiefs' Education Centre: Keeseekoose FN (8:20 -9:30) Before shooting this video, each group of youth was asked: 1) What word or symbol would best represent their collective voice of what they want to see more of in this world? 2) What key land locations or events events around your first nation best represent who you are and where you come from? This video reveals the answers to those questions, while set in time and in tune with three songs produced and created by N'we Jinan Artists and the talented youth from Kawacatoose, Cote and Ocean Man first nations, (played in the following order): "MANY PATHS" // Kawacatoose First Nation: https://youtu.be/Qpbw6UvB21U "LOOK AT ME" // Cote First Nation: https://youtu.be/C5FVxXzK8Hs "HUNGER FOR MORE" // Ocean Man First Nation: https://youtu.be/rk9fIVSMVHg For more information on the Learning the Land initiatives featured in this video, please visit: http://learningtheland.ca/land-mapping/ http://learningtheland.ca/outdoor-lea... http://learningtheland.ca/sar/workshops/ http://learningtheland.ca/murals/ (lead by Michael Lonechild of White Bear First Nations) For a short version of this video offered up as part of our #cheekaydawn campaign with current affiliated schools and nations, please visit: https://youtu.be/w7Y1CxSsERE
