The South Klondike highway to White Pass is still closed, and for good reason. Check out these avalanche photos from this week's historic storm. Thanks to the Highways and Public Works avalanche contractor for taking the time to submit to the Mountain Information Network. https://www.avalanche.ca/map

Great blog post from Avalanche Canada on what goes into producing the Yukon avalanche forecast for White Pass. "Sometimes it's simple!" like when you get a metre of snow overnight to double the snowpack! At 2 metres, we now have one of the deepest in Western Canada! Look for an updated forecast on Avalanche.ca soon. ... https://www.avalanche.ca/blogs/sometimes-its-simple

Good news: the first Yukon forecast of the season is now live on Avalanche.ca! You can also access the forecast from the YukonAvalanche.ca home page in the trip planning toolbox. https://www.avalanche.ca/forecasts/yukon It's currently storming in the White Pass and more than 30 cms are expected by Monday. Avalanche danger will continue to build throughout this storm, rising to High. ... If you are heading out, please post to the Mountain Information Network (MIN) and help strengthen the forecast now and throughout the season. You'll notice that forecaster confidence is currently low, and that's simply because there are limited field observations presently. Your contribution to the MIN is hugely important. Thanks to everyone who has already taken the time to post - 22 MIN reports and counting!

There have been many questions regarding the status of the Canada/U.S. border and access to White Pass in light of this week's news. Thanks for the clarification, Yukon Protective Services. A reminder that it is still early season, and Avalanche Canada Yukon forecast program will not start up until later in December. In the meantime, be sure to check out the latest field reports posted to the Avalanche Canada Mountain Information Network. ... Lots of great observations coming in already, all confirming that coverage is thin and there are many early season hazards to watch out for. If you're heading out, play safe, and post to the MIN after your trip! See more
