Some of our crews stay at our maintenance camps for days at a time ensuring that Yukon's highways remain safe all-year long. However, that doesn't mean they can't help spread the Christmas cheer! One of our colleagues and her family helped decorate the Swift River camp this year. It's great for the crews and the road users who travel by. Happy holidays from all of us at #YukonHPW

Tis the Season! The Dawson City ice bridge is now open to light traffic. Vehicles up to 5,000 KG’s can now safely cross the river between Dawson and West Dawson Crews will be on hand all winter to monitor the safety of the crossing. The South Klondike Highway will remain closed to the public until next week We will provide updates when road conditions improve. Due to an unprecedented amount of snow and avalanches, road crews are struggling to clean up and the risk of avalanches remains moderate Don't believe us? Take a look for yourself! Big thank you to the crews from Fraser and Carcross for their tireless work so far

Yukoners across the territory are still catching up after our most recent snowfall, including the #YukonHPW and City of #Whitehorse road crews! Next time you’re clearing your driveway or sidewalk, keep the snow in your yard and not in the road or highway. Our equipment can’t reach every street right after a snow event and these piles can pose a serious hazard to unsuspecting road users including cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. Shovel neat, not into the street!

The traffic lights on the Alaska Highway at Hillcrest Drive are now fully operational! This important feature improves safety throughout this key route for all road users. As with any new construction, please travel through the area with caution as you familiarize yourself with the various improvements and always be considerate of other road users.

The traffic signals on the Alaska Highway through Whitehorse are being turned on over the next few days. This means the lights will be flashing, so remember, when approaching an intersection with flashing yellow lights, slow down and approach with caution. If the lights are flashing red, stop completely and proceed when it’s safe to do so.

We are pleased to be working on creating a safer, more reliable bridge in Teslin. After all, the Nisutlin Bay Bridge is the lifeline to our territory. While construction is anticipated to begin toward the end of next construction season, we recently met with potential contractors through a virtual information session. This was an opportunity for them to learn about the culture of Teslin Tlingit Council and what it’s like to live and work in the area. We’re so thankful that the Mayor of Teslin, Gord Curran and Naa Shaáde Háni Eric Morris were able to share at the session as their experience and expertise is vital to the success of this project! Stay tuned for more details on the project early next year.
