I love having a solid personal referral network. Anyone I may refer you to, I know personally, have worked with or have heard positive feedback from trusted sources. James fits into all three of those categories. James' Exceptional Social Skills program gives hope to parents of children with Autism, ADHD and learning disabilities who struggle with social behaviour in school, at home and with peers. Working with James can really change a family dynamic for the better. If you are curious about his services or work with children check him out at: https://exceptionalspeech.com/
A reminder that I welcome all of you into my practice. I offer a safe space for healing where all of your intersecting identities can exist at once. I see you. #vancouveracupuncturist #somaticsexeducator #trauma #minoritystress #safespaces #pride #lqbtqia+ #bipoc

Your body heals when you're able to rest. In a world where we function at such a fast pace, it is important to know how to slow down. Just as it is important to be able to receive as it is to give, exercise the fight or flight aspect of the nervous system as well as the rest and digest. Don't get stuck running at Mach speed. If you're new to acupuncture and find it hard to relax during treatment, know that there can be a learning curve to dropping into a deep rest. Thos...e who come in on a regular basis almost have a Pavlovian response as soon as the first few needles go in. If you're new and nervous, I can work with you! We'll start out slow and I let you call the shots in terms of what feels safe for you. Full testimonial: So as you know I wear the WHOOP, it measures sleep hours among other things . There is a pattern whereby I sleep longer after acupuncture. Last night was an extreme, I slept for 9 hours . Normally I sleep about 7 hours and then around 8 hours after my treatment with you. Its consistently about 20% -30% more deep sleep. Very healthy and fab. Its a real thing and I am lucky to have met you. Plus shoulders are about 95% better. Much quicker healing time. Thank you to @evidencebasedacupuncture for doing all of the legwork on gathering the research. Check out their website (https://www.evidencebasedacupuncture.org/)for further references. Regular acupuncture can help support you around experiences of stress and anxiety. "Research suggests that between 1-30% of the global population suffers from some form of anxiety.1 There are 13 different subclassifications of anxiety disorders listed in the latest Diagnostic and Statistic...al Manual (used by medical professionals to diagnose and treat psychological conditions),2 with symptoms and physical manifestations varying considerably. From shortness of breath and variations in heart rate, to full blown and debilitating panic attacks, headaches, pain and insomnia,3 anxiety is a complex, pervasive condition that is generally treated using medication." #acupuncture #vancouveracupuncturist #anxiety #stress #trauma #chinesemedicine

If you're feeling challenged with recent changes, this page has some great resources to help you manage. There can definitely be some silver linings to reconsider things and it's important not to let the feelings within go unnoticed. The many distractions around us have been stripped away and the nagging feelings in your body might be difficult to avoid. https://www.thepayitforwardacademy.com//Coronavirus%20Quar
Trauma is retained in the body by a process of suppressing emotional pain. Suppression is a survival strategy, enacted in part to numb the pain of difficult exp...eriences and memories. Loss of sensation is one way such emotional dissociation becomes physicalized. Chronic physical pain is another. As its suppressed, our history of psychological trauma converts to muscular and connective tissue tension. When you push uncomfortable or unbearable memories deeper and deeper into body tissues, physical dissociation occurs where you stuff them. Over time, these areas of tension break connection with your map of psycho-proprioceptive real estate. That place on your map has gone dark, and the result is that you literally lose touch with yourself.
I've enjoyed working consistently with William for over a year in support of his commitment to his wellbeing. Thank you for your reflections. "Prior to meeting Ala Wroblewska I had utilized acupuncture for specific injury treatment from intense sports activities. I found acupuncture the most effective means of speeding healing and recovery. Ala's acupuncture treatment began as a test to see if the nervous system shock from high intensity interval training could be alleviat...ed. In fact, the treatment with Ala worked perfectly and it became part of my fitness regimen. Later I was diagnosed with a cancer which required a type of treatment that charged my nervous system. Ala's acupuncture treatment approach completely eliminates that nervous system effect and my cancer treatment has progressed successfully without the typical side effects. I can recommend Ala as a gifted healer who designs individual treatment based on specific needs. For me, it has been a game changer." #acupunctureworks #vancouveracupuncturist #nervoussystemreset

Did you know that your acupuncture health benefits can be used towards maintaining healthy skin? Dermapen micro needling can help with skin concerns and keeping a healthy glow. http://www.stillwateracupuncture.ca/dermapen/
Your skin is the largest excretory organ in your body. Along with your kidneys, bladder, liver and large intestine, your skin helps your body deal with the waste it produces. Isolating skin from the rest of your body when it comes to its health doesn't make sense. When your body is functioning well, receiving the exercise, water and good nutrition it needs your skin will show it. Even your emotional and psychological wellbeing can manifest on the exterior. With acupuncture ...and micro needling we can work from the inside out as well as targeting the skin directly. Acupuncture treatments can help your body perform its best while micro needling supports collagen production. Together these two modalities will help maintain glowing skin. #microneedling #dermapen #acupuncture #digestion #hormonebalance #stress #acne #scars #hyperpigmentation #skincare #beautyfromtheinsideout @stillwateracupuncture
Sharing a brief update about office hours this November. Wishing everyone a nourishing November.. I have availability on November 6th-9th as well as 14th-15th. Usual hours will continue from November 27th on.
Some of you may know that I have been planning a break to go away and study. It's been a deep desire of mine to sink into Classical Chinese Medicine theory. I have been very fortunate in having been offered a beautiful place to stay and work at on Salt Spring Island. Aside from spending the days studying, I am taking up yoga, enjoying my meals at a slower pace and taking in a lot of silence. Feeling grateful to be steeped in the rich and colourful transition of the autumn. ...I am coming back to Vancouver weekly to see folks at the clinic and am updating my schedule on social media and on Google. Upcoming dates in Vancouver with availability include: October 23rd (Wednesday) & 24th (Thursday) October 29th (Tuesday) & 30th (Wednesday) Email me at [email protected] for bookings.
Reoccurring compensation patterns; tight quadriceps, hamstrings and gluts that don't fire. I often hear that a patient's gluts aren't firing properly. By virtue of being in the bodies we are in, we develop patterns where certain muscles get weak and others get tight. The weak muscles stretch out and don't engage in the work they should be initiating. Compensatory patterns develop when those tight muscles step in and take over for the work of the muscles that aren't firing.... __ Motor point stimulation can help relax the muscles that are overworked and kick weak muscles into gear to help correct these compensation patterns. __ Correcting these imbalances is not only helpful for pain situations. Motor point work can help you increase the efficiency of your workouts by reconnecting the muscles to the nervous system so they fire correctly!
Oh, how we're wired! Check this out: Mirror neuron, type of sensory-motor cell located in the brain that is activated when an individual performs an action or observes another individual performing the same action. Thus, the neurons mirror others actions. This part of our nervous system is being studied in relation to empathy and social connections.

Silver~ How many years of beauty do I have left? she asks me. How many more do you want?... Here. Here is 34. Here is 50. When you are 80 years old and your beauty rises in ways your cells cannot even imagine now and your wild bones grow luminous and ripe, having carried the weight of a passionate life. When your hair is aflame with winter and you have decades of learning and leaving and loving sewn into the corners of your eyes and your children come home to find their own history in your face. When you know what it feels like to fail ferociously and have gained the capacity to rise and rise and rise again. When you can make your tea on a quiet and ridiculously lonely afternoon and still have a song in your heart Queen owl wings beating beneath the cotton of your sweater. Because your beauty began there beneath the sweater and the skin, remember? This is when I will take you into my arms and coo YOU BRAVE AND GLORIOUS THING youve come so far. I see you. Your beauty is breathtaking." ~ Jeannette Encinias

Tying together the Core Principles of somatic work as they are presented in the Art of Somatic Coaching. Conflict as a generative tool can be a tricky one. This takes skillful navigating, humility and compassion to move through it with grace. We are taught to avoid conflict for many reasons and sometimes have not been given the space and support to fully engage in it. As a recap, all 7 principles:... Primacy of Relationships. A deep acknowledgement & embodiment of interdependence & interconnection as central to fabric of relationships. Transformation. Recognition we are evolving beings capable of sustainable, actionable change that reflects what we care about and can transform to more awakened consciousness. Embodiment. The centrality of being the change, being the transformation, the new action or skill. The state of authenticity that is distinct from cognitive knowledge. Practice. We transform and evolve through practices. We are what we practice. Linked to values, ethics, care, commitments. Self-cultivation. Life-long path of self cultivation cornerstone in developing wisdom, compassion and skillful action Conflict as generative. Skillful use of conflict can produce trust, connection, life-affirming possibilities & intimacy while minimizing violence. Social & environment equity. The commitment to freedom, peace, justice & sustainability for all beings.

Yesterday we visited the importance of relationships and our ability to change. #relationships #transformation #embody #practice #personaldevelopment #breath #move #bodywisdom #weallhaveit @stillwateracupuncture
In the hunt for solutions today, I returned to the book, The Art of Somatic Coaching. I was drawn in to investigate the core principles which I will share with you. The foundations of any subject are often the greatest source of information. Stayed tuned as I share the remaining five principles with you in the coming days! #somatics #bodyandmind #unified #innerwisdom #growth #aliveness
Honor those that came before you.
You may not be able to change the quality of air which you breathe or influence the stressful circumstances that you undergo. You do have control over what you put in your body in terms of your diet. Ultimately influencing your genes! Empower yourself through diet, exercise, mindfulness and pursuing fulfillment however that looks for you. Chinese medicine can help you re-engineer your health today.
As the sun is setting for a soul departing this world, I heard a wonderful sharing from a patient around connection with this person that struck a chord with me: "I think that however relationships end and although we move to different places and people in our lives, we loved them once and its only when theyre dying or very far removed that the bad stuff can be stripped away and we can recall just how much [we love them]. We are each others histories and we matter to each ...other." How true it is that we each impact one another. Or how distance and the imminent loss of someone can quickly remind us of all the goodness that relationship offered. Comfort breeds complacency. What's your reality check? A thought to contemplate on your Sunday evening. #sunset #death #loss #grief #gratitude #donttaketodayforgranted #complacency #connection #unity See more
