Customers, both old and new and dedicated volunteers and management, are helping to create a successful reopening of the YWCA Opportunity Thrift Shop. The shop reopened June 2nd. The choice to be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only was necessary to allow for enhanced cleaning, adequate staffing and management of receiving and handling of donations. A great deal of planning was done, and continues to be ongoing, to keep everyone safe while in the shop. Our donors continue to bring in saleable merchandise to keep the shelves and the racks overflowing. We are determined to continue with our commitment to the YWCA to support their programming for those in need in our community. Your help through donationing, purchasing and volunteering is greatly appreciated.

Did you know that we are also selling face masks ? Each mask is made by one of our volunteers with leftover fabrics that didn’t sell in our shop. We make sure that nothing goes to waste! We sell them for $5 each!

Today is the day! We are open again! We can’t wait to see you all again! Things will be a little bit different as we are doing everything we can to keep us and our customers safe !

What an exciting time!!! Covid 19 has changed the world in so many ways. We've had time to rethink our lives, our values and what is really important to us all. As we cautiously move forward, it means we can begin to think about the future in a very positive way again. With that said and with the go ahead from the powers that be, the YWCA Opportunity shop is reopening! Our opening day is June 2nd. The shop will be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for now. This will allo...w time for enhanced cleaning to assure our customers and our volunteers that we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety while in the shop. The hours will remain the same, 10a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Much has been done and continues to be done in preparation for reopening. Because of the season change over the weeks during our closure, hundreds of new items of summer clothing are filling the racks. Please follow the posted precautions as we move forward. We will be accepting donations however we have a criteria that needs to be followed. The donor will need to answer a couple of questions: have you or anyone in your home experienced flu-like symptoms or have been diagnosed with covid 19? have you been in contact with anyone who was diagnosed with covid 19 ? donations will be accepted at the back door only... Please call first to see if the shop still has the capacity to accept donations. We have to go through safety procedures which will slow down the process of accepting donations and putting them out for sale!

ATTENTION!! We plan to first open the shop on Tuesday, June 2nd. The shop will be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and the hours of business will remain the same! Please be assured that we are taking every precaution to keep our customers and staff safe. We ask that everyone cooperates with the guidelines we have set out in accordance to the instructions we have received. Guidelines will be very visibly posted; basically what has been recommended all along.

Today we are celebrating our volunteers and our achievements! We are also very happy to be able to give the YWCA Saskatoon a donation of $20,000 for their turning points programs!

This week is Sexual Violence Awareness week! Often survivors do not come forward to tell their stories. It is time for us as a community to make it okay and sa...fe to do so. YWCA Saskatoon provides a first come, first served crisis shelter for women and children who need a safe place to stay, along with confidential counselling and wrap-around supports and referrals. SSAIC offers free counselling to survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones, public education, and a 24-hour crisis and information line for survivors of sexual violence. If you are in danger or require emergency assistance, dial 911. For 24-hour counselling, call the 24-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Line at 1-306-244-2224. For emergency shelter, call the YWCA at 1-306-244-2844.
