Today is Autism Awareness Day! Throughout my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist, I have developed a deep passion for working with children diagnosed with autism. Parents thank me for the work I do, but I thank the children for making me see the world through a different set of lenses. Each one of my students has made me a better Speech-Language Pathologist and person. I thank you for who you are! Lisa www.zanonspeechtherapy.com
I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe at home during these uncertain times. While Speech Therapy falls under Public Health and our own governing body (CASLPO) and clinics like Zanon Speech Therapy are closed, in some cases I can accommodate Speech Therapy via telepractice (on-line plateforms). If you're interested, or just want some free tips and advice to engage your children while regular therapy is paused, please feel free to reach out. I'm happy to help. Thanks, Lis...a Zanon www.zanonspeechtherapy.com 613-851-0506 See more

New Year = New Speech and Language Skills Children learn and develop new speech and language skills on a daily basis. Providing a language rich environment is important in helping those skills grow. Remember to talk to your children, not at them and always be a good listener. If you have any questions, visit www.zanonspeechtherapy.com
It's the small things that matter... Yesterday a client gave me a personalized mug as a gift. I have received gifts in the past, but this one was different and it made me emotional. It wasn't the gift itself, but the gesture and the message on the mug. "I am a Speech Pathologist, What's your Superpower?" I think of myself as a regular person just doing something I love. In no way or form do I see myself as a superhero with superpowers. The children and the parents who work h...ard to overcome their challenges are the true heroes. They make my job rewarding. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Play skills = Language Skills Children start developing language from the day they’re born through social relationships and play. Playing allows children to develop social, communication, motor, and academic skills. The development of verbal language has an impact on developing play skills. Autism should not define someone. When given the right tools and support to thrive, those individuals can do anything. So inspiring! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08pVQ5JeDDA
