Our final Philanthropy Day nominee is child advocate volunteer, Sonya. Sonya is a Child Advocate with the Zebra Child Protection Centre and has been with us since February 2019. She shows up early, works hard, stays late and makes it all look easy we are extremely lucky and grateful to have her as part of our herd. Volunteering at Zebra is both a privilege and a great responsibility. A privilege to be a part of every families’ journey as they face their own unique adversi...ty and challenges. A privilege to be able to offer support to families in a meaningful way and knowing that every interaction has an impact. It is also a great privilege to represent an organization that is a leader in this field, incredibly supportive to volunteers and well-respected in the community. It is my responsibility to continually improve my knowledge, skills and capabilities in order to always do the best I can. The responsibility to myself to continually grow and learn on my path of self-discovery and to always be respectful of what each family teaches me. Our third Philanthropy Day nominee is the Central Sewing Westend Volunteer Group. For many years the Central Sewing Westend Volunteer Group has been making quilts for the children and youth that come to the Zebra Centre. Our mandate is simple, we make quilts, backpack bags and gift bags all for the Zebra Child Protection Centre. Our aim is to make quality quilts, the same as we make for our own families, no corners cut Central Sewing Westend Volunteer Group... The Edmonton community and the Zebra Centre is grateful to have the Central Sewing Westend Volunteer Group supporting our organization and the children, youth and families we serve. Our next nominee is the First Responders Rodeo Association. Edmonton First Responder's Rodeo Association For two years, the Edmonton First Responders Rodeo has hosted an annual amateur rodeo/recreational event for First Responders and their families. In the two years of this event, Edmonton First Responders Rodeo has raised $15,000 for our Centre and helped us share our message. ... As first responders, we strive every day to protect our communities. Children are the future of those communities. Every child deserves to be protected from trauma and given a voice to be heard. The Edmonton First Responders Rodeo Association is proud to partner with the Zebra Centre to help protect our communities’ children First Responders Rodeo Association Their commitment to supporting First Responders and children and youth in our community is heartwarming. Zebra Child Protection Centre is proud to recognize and honour four nominees from our Zebra Herd for National Philanthropy Day 2020. We are so grateful for the dedicated work each has done for our Centre and the families we support. We are excited to celebrate and share our nominees with you throughout the day. Centre High Campus Emergency Response Career Pathways (ERCP) students generously raised $11,472 for the Zebra Centre by hosting an incredible Bike-A-Thon fundraiser e...vent in 2019. Students raised funds by going door-to-door, connecting with their classmates and spreading the message about the work the Zebra Centre does. We were honoured to be selected by the ERCP students and are proud to see students working to raise awareness about child abuse in our community.
