It's time to put on your stretchy pants and let the rain get to work on these mountain tops. Wishing our Canadian friends and fam a happy and healthy Thanksgiving long weekend. We are forever grateful to get to explore with you in this beautiful place!

So many techy tools, where does one start!? We're excited to lock down some dates for our newest clinic, (Modern) Navigation. This two part course (some time on Zoom and some time in the field) will explore our overwhelming options when it comes to navigation tools. We'll teach you what works the best and how to use it to plan and execute trips like a pro. Learn more here: https://www.zenithguides.ca/navigation

We're still trying to figure out how it's already August, but here's a quick recap of what we got up to for the last two weeks of July. Time flies! Don't hesitate to give us a shout if you want to check any of these places out. July 15 North Ridge of Tricouni. It was excellent conditions. Perfect amount of snow and Dry rock. No alder thrash on your high clearance truck to get to 1350m making for a quick approach. I imagine approach to col and descent back to the lake are al...l snow free now. Crevasses weren’t an issue but maybe one or two opening up by now. July 19 Cypress. Excellent conditions with snow down very low in avalanche path to around 1300m. That is probably disappearing fast. July 21-25 Sigurd Creek. Climbed Pelion and Ossa. Pelion was perfect conditions with snow from 1300m that had a good refreeze making for quick travel and quicker sof snow glissade on the way home. A few crevasses opening up near the summit so stay aware! Ossa was much more snow free. If you haven’t done it the summit scramble is exposed and slightly technical if you are not comfortable without a rope on that sort of thing! July 26-29 Overseer/Zygo. Camped near the Harrison Hut. The road to get to the hiking trail is gated a further 13km back apparently. We used a heli to base camp and don’t forget the hut is closed right now! There is much less snow on this side of the range with tons of blue ice cramponing to climb the peaks. Remaining snow only refrozen one night and is mostly isothermal as it is shallow over the ice. Lots of weak snow bridges In this area Wonderful zone for classic mountaineering peaks and no people. We climbed Earth, Zygo and Overseer.

Turns out lockdown was the perfect opportunity for Eric Carter and I to finish up a cool little project that we've been picking away at for a while now.... Introducing the Sea To Sky Backcountry Map, a next generation topographic map of the Shannon Creek Basin (and Stawamus Chief) for ski touring and mountain running. Until August 14, we're hosting a pre-sale for the map (and other gear from our supporters!) to help us get the first print run off the ground. Check it all out, and order yours, at www.seatoskybackcountry.com.

Mount Temple memories. A little hustle up the East Ridge of this classic climb with Laurie Block was one for the books.

It's Bugaboo season. Enough said.

Zenith Mountain Guides 25.06.2020

Well summer will start eventually...and when it does here's a new route from 2018 I did with Laurie Block in the Tantalus on Mt Dione and didn't really post much of or write things up until it had more people do it - it is well deserving of some traffic. After a few laps from folks the jury seems to think its a Tantalus classic. You be the judge. If you combine with the lower half of Dehydrated On Dalwhinnie you end up with 11 pitches of climbing to the summit with difficult...ies to 10b and many pitches in the 5.9-10- range. Go have a taste and if you want me to show you around drop a note ! https://www.zenithguides.ca/newcrag (the link says Debeck's but its now just turning into a new route page)
