For many mamas, this week has seen the addition of a new responsibility to juggle - a lot of kids are starting, or returning to, virtual school. First, let’s take a bit of pressure off of ourselves and our kids. This is hard for you, and it’s equally, if not harder, for them. We have no prior experience in this to pull from. You are doing the best that you can, and so is your child. . What matters the most now is not how much attention they are paying in their zoom calls, or... how quickly they’re advancing, but that our kids feel safe and supported. That is what they’ll remember about this time - a difficult and confusing situation made a little easier by a mama who showed her love whether or not they sat still and participated in their zoom calls. . Here’s a meditation excerpted from the Zen Mama Yoga Deck that you can teach your children to help them, (and you!), through this challenging time. . Teach Them the Power of Breath . Encourage your child to breathe deeply in the way that most appeals to them. Blow bubbles, (real or imaginary), to facilitate deep breathing. Have them imagine smelling a bouquet of flowers (inhale), and blowing out a candle (exhale). Place a drop of child safe essential oils, (i.e. lavender or orange), in your hand.
