Mahi Mahi, asian tofu stir fry with jasmine rice and mac and cheese with squash... yummy!

This week we made Vegetable Tajine with gorgeous sweet potatoes, zucchinis and tomatoes donated by BOTSIS FRUITS & VEGETABLES INC. and thoughtfully delivered to us by Andrea Yampolsky. The peppers went into our baked penne with rosé sauce, roasted peppers and eggplant....thank you!

A wonderful initiative called Zera Café & Catering has been operating out of the Shaare Zion Congregation to prepare meals for individuals in our community. The... clients at Jem Workshop were one of the early recipients of these prepared meals. This initiative is so important and ensures that our volunteers on the ground are able to continue feeding those in our community. Thank you to the incredible people who continue to give their time, our community has come together in incredible ways and we are so proud! See more

This week, we kick off our Thank You Thursdays with a mother-daughter duo. Eve Rochman began Zera Café & Catering which offers Israeli-style food and employs ...adults with intellectual disabilities. She provides them with training for future food service jobs. She has organized a very small group of volunteers that cooked over 1000 single serve meals to date, for vulnerable people in the community. Dana, étudiante en 4e année du secondaire, a passé des appels téléphoniques au Centre Cummings pour prendre contact avec les personnes âgées et vérifier leur état de santé. Eve, Dana - nous sommes très fiers de votre contribution. Si vous connaissez quelqu'un dans notre communauté scolaire (élève, parent, ancien élève) qui contribue en travaillant dans les services essentiels, dans les soins de santé ou qui est bénévole pour aider pendant ces périodes, veuillez nous le faire savoir. meet some of Zera's superhero volunteers....

We are really getting the hang of this.... This week: Mac and cheese with butternut squash, vegetarian moussaka, glazed salmon with couscous, tofu fried rice, vegan chili and cornbread, zucchini frittata, vegetable chowder, ginger carrot soup, and something sweet, cherry Garcia squares!... Lots of meals for Federation CJA to distribute to those who need them... none of this happens without an outstanding and dedicated crew of volunteers. Thank you to Ruthy Bensimon, Aviva Reinitz, Arianne Aberman, Linda Bassel Susan Cohene, Vanessa Vidal, Victoria Allen, Jeanine Goldstein,Natalie Hazan. Then there's David Lisbona and Elana Beth who helped ease the shopping... Also, not without the support of Myriam Bensimon Doppelt, Asher Tannenbaum and Jodi Vinitsky-Toledano who welcomed us into the Shaare Zion Kitchen.... Thanks everyone!

What a week for Zera Café & Catering! We put our skills to work and cooked 400 single serve meals for vulnerable people in the community. Delicious, healthy, vegetable forward! The Zera way! All this with only 4 volunteers at a time, socially distanced, of course.... We'd like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Shaare Zion Congregation for allowing us to use their kitchen, Federation CJA & the The Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal for the logistical and financial support, and most especially to the amazing volunteers who came out and worked SO HARD to get it all done. We are so proud to be on the front line helping those who must stay at home!

Zera Catering was so excited to go live this week but life got in the way.... We urge everyone to be safe and if you can stay home, please do. We're all in this together and will get through it together. Hi everyone, It's that time of year again! We're dusting off our rolling pins to get ready to bake the greatest hamentashen in town! We will soon be making the same delicious hamentashen you know and love. We're offering them by the dozen in prune, poppy, chocolate, and cinnamon. A mixed box is also available! ... We will be baking in the Shaar Hashomayim dairy kitchen. This year, they are $15 per dozen, without a tax receipt. All proceeds will go towards Zera Café & Catering, a not for profit social enterprise that employs young adults with developmental disabilities. Your order and support for my new endeavor is very much appreciated. In addition to catering delicious food, Zera Café & Catering provides adults of intellectual diversity not only an opportunity for employment, but personal growth, social interaction, and a sense of purpose.
