Zero Gun Violence Movement 24.02.2021

Family, community and YMCA co-workers out in full support last night in Lawrence Heights to celebrate the legacy of Shane Stanford, who was gunned down last week - on his way home from work. Shane was recognized for his work with youth at the YMCA, taking many to see President Obama when he visited Toronto last year and for being a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend to so many in his community. Thanks Change TO for inviting ZGVM to the Walk for Change march yesterday on Jane Street - congrats on bringing so many different orgs together to question the political leaders who think it's more important to build a $3.7 billion luxury park downtown instead of supporting the Jane/Finch community hub that Metrolinx is backtracking on. Message is clear - change will come when peeps walking today become voters tomorrow - time to give the political elites the boot. Clearly political leaders from the three levels of government do not see gun and gang violence as a priority concern, from this article. They cannot even agree to sit down together and create a multi-government action plan as they have down with various other major issues. This must be a major concern because the only time that they actually did come together was when there was the shooting on the Danforth - a couple years back. Makes you wonder - how come. Looks like there is an acceptable level of gun violence in the City as long as it is with certain people and in certain communities. How much longer should we trust these politicians to do what is right - not only for some people, but for all? https://www.toronto.com//10053193--an-indictment-against-s

No pause button on shootings and gun homicides in Toronto- as both have increased 30% this year - compared to same time period last year. Root causes have still not be addressed - in fact gotten worst with COVID-19 pandemic emergencies on everyone's priority list - plenty work to be done - see attached for details
