Hello... It’s Sunday night, while this post is happening. And, I think that maybe a lot of you are heading back to work tomorrow? School tomorrow? For the first time since the start of vacation.... And those transitions are generally weird, at the very least, but may also go so far as to be hugely anxiety provoking. Got some tips for ya- as someone who enjoyed a few consecutive days out of the factory (ok I went in a little when I wasn’t supposed to. Once or twice, or so. Nothing major.), when two consecutive days off is rare, and then bam- back to reality- here are some of those tips... I promised... back there...: put your morning clothes out (even if you work from home!)- it’ll save you precious moments that would otherwise be full of complete and utter confusion, as you fumble for socks in the dark. pack your lunch- again, limit AM fumbling/time stress. maybe you had time to prioritize meal prep. High five. Think of how seamless your week will be now, comparatively. Thursday you is saying, thanks! PLAN SOMETHING HAPPY FOR THIS WEEKEND/your end of work day! You... can do it and you will love it! We need stuff to look forward to- otherwise life is boring and confusing and feels meaningless. Living in the moment? No no. Onwards. go to bed- turn off your phone. Hope that helps some. But if you find yourself awake between 2 and 4:30, your mind racing, know that you are sadly not alone. . . . . What’s harder to make- 60 chocolate bars, or 600 chocolate bars? Obviously, it’s 600. But it is also stupid to make just 60- because it is so inefficient. The set up. Thankfully we have our small devil machine to temper chocolate in a pinch. A very long pinch. The pinch is a pallet, going out tomorrow. And I was informed this afternoon that we were 60 Sweet Orange Nib’d bars short. Maybe I shouldn’t be telling you this. Also who cares there’s so much out there. The point is.... You probably had to be there to appreciate it. The other point is- it is important that the bars have the right temper. I’m not the only ethical vegan business owner out there who considers end product quality to be a life or death level of importance. Because, if it doesn’t present well, and has the v word on it, it may turn less informed consumers off of pursuing more vegan things- maybe even the lifestyle. There’s a reason the saying reduce, reuse, recycle - is always in that order. It indicates the most beneficial options to the least beneficial. Reduce- uses fewer resources, because demand is diminished for raw materials and processing agents. Recycling is basically trying to be responsible with waste- but requires lots of resources to create materials in the first place, and then to actually recycle. We’re doing the first two here- reducing where demand for new containers w...ould be expected by reusing bags from our bulk ingredient purchases, to keep them from being recycled before they need to be. Sweet victory. Not sure if you know this, but, being off by 0.5 degrees Celsius when making chocolate can be the difference between perfection and disaster- to the trained tastebuds (and eye). Was 0.5 C off for a while. Until this afternoon, when, upon that adjustment, The Milkless Way quest was finally victorious. A lot of bars were remelted in the process... and many hours gone. But, moving forward, things should be better. There’s just something about one of a kind, vegan... milk chocolate that is a little tricky to handle... and representing creations made with compassion in mind is crucial. Can’t have folks swearing off vegan chocolate because of a less than stellar experience.
