With the huge pandemic going on that's keeping a lot of people indoors I thought it would be a great time to share my throwing away habits with you! In this photo I took last week I had all my household waste separated and ready for pickup. For recycling, I keep one blue bag specifically for plastics and tin cans just in case they are still a bit wet from cleaning and rinsing them. The second bag contains only dry and flattened paper waste. I separate these recyclables becau...se if the paper does get wet it will be thrown out into landfill. The green cart is filled just over half of the way full of food residue contaminated paper, whole food peelings, and whatever leftovers that were not able to be eaten. The brown cart is sitting at about the same level as the green cart which, 2 years ago, would have been packed extremely tight and still overflowing. All and all, for the past two weeks I've managed to keep large amounts of waste from going to the landfill and be able to be reused somewhere in our economy. This just goes to show how easy it is and how much of it we can do. While being stuck indoors it is the best time to improve your "throwing away habits". Every little bit counts. So remember, Don't throw away, recycle today!
