Street outlaws recap!! Kinda long but worth it! Where to even begin, if I told the whole story it would be 30 min read In a nutshell we got a message early Jun...e saying some to Milan at the back of the track and let’s see what u got. We quickly realized our 2400hp used to run 5.0s at 4900lbs was absolutely useless with no prep! After making about 15 passes we were making progress. Ya, that’s right the truck made like 15 passes without grenading a trans. Absolute miracle Got the call that said we were in and needed to be in Wyoming 1.5 week later for up to 3 weeks.. holy hell... Mad scramble to get all in order, oh and we had to add steel bedsides to truck to meet rules. Fast foward to the awesome 27 hour ride out west, we get there just in time to Parking lot spool test etc Sunday and all was good. Monday night we line a grudge up and waited on the line for what seemed eternity, jj dropped his arms and we rolled out fast and boom. Got it back to camp and realized the Scs case self destructed.. pretty much the last thing I thought that would break. So ya, overnighted a new one of those Fast forward a day or so and the team was able to rent a local track, let’s just say two lanes of no prep. Not nice at all! Keep in mind we are racing tonight against team Northeast!! We roll up to the line and go to do my thing and she is pissed, nitrous back firing like a mofo... so let’s repeat this like 5 times and I’m just baffled. I was about ready to smash my nx controller and computer. We finally make a pass and it goes a-b pretty good with no burnout. Go back out one more time and try the burnout and boom... backfired so bad it was running on 5 holes and crazy noise from trans.. this is when the panic mode set in.. it’s like 2:30 and we have to be on the road for the race by 7 and we have 1 hour drive... We drag it back to trailer and I rip into it, I assumed the backfire kicked a injector or feed tube loose, I was out of options. Pulled them all, resealed inj and feed tubes and it was back running ok but super bad noise from trans. So we pulled that sob out and some idiot me didn’t tighten the bell housing to trans bolts good enough and they all came loose hitting the converter. So we fix that, couldn’t get the damn converter to drop in, so me, dylan and my wife stood the trans and tcase up on edge and managed to get it... time check.. it’s like 5.. fml.. so Dylan and I fought that sob back in and got it done at 5:45, put trans fluid back in and loaded and left for the race night... I have a hour to evaluate life while driving and couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on, so I had to make a decision to either look like an idiot and try the burnout and shit could backfire and we look like an idiot or play it safe. We get there, get all setup, team meeting, the team knew my truck could go A-B on anything and we were up first!! Oh great!! I was like, shit I haven’t even checked the trans fluid, I rushed back to scramble to make sure all was good still debating on the burnout, I decided to play it safe. We lost the coin toss, I really wanted right lane cause it was a bit better being first pass of the night. So left lane it is! We rolled in with no burnout and she came right up, we were ready. Jj drops and the other guy shot out like a rocket and I was like F...., I gave it everything it had but wasn’t enough. We went back for the night and we rooted on the rest of our team, it was a dogfight all night. We all tried our best but came up a little short. Our biggest mistake as a team was our lack of testing time once we got there, we all arrived late while other teams were there a full week before testing. No excuses but it is what it is, we flat out ran out of time to get data. 100* during the day and 55* at night at 6500’ is a huge factor. It was a hell of a experience and one I will never forget. I hope to one day have the opportunity again. I tried to represent the Diesel community the best I could. I will say being there was absolutely insane and tv does 0 justice, the time crunches, mad scrambling, side bets, shit taking was unreal! I can’t thank all our ongoing sponsors enough for their support. My family for taking care of the kids while we were gone and the guys at the shop giving it their all. Also huge shout out to all the team Detoit guys for letting me be a part of the team, everyone was and is a class act. Hopefully one day we can have a chance to represent the diesel community again on the big stage!
