In partnership with the Department of Health and Wellness, Beck Exercise Physiology is proud to present this innovative, online program for Islanders, free of charge. There will be separate programs focusing the four most prevalent chronic diseases on PEI: cancer, diabetes, heart disease (including high blood pressure), and COPD. This introductory, 6 week, online offering is geared for beginners and aims to educate and empower people on how to improve their health through exe...rcise. There will be two monthly transition sessions as well, to help you continue to exercise independently. You'll receive professional exercise prescription from a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and will learn how to exercise safely - including discussion on medications and the effects of exercise on your health. You will also work on setting and achieving personal goals, determining how exercise best fits into YOUR life, and enjoy a fun and social experience. Forget how you perceive what exercise programs are like, and who they are for. This program is aimed at those who are ready to make a change but need support to get started. Space is limited. What small change can you make today?

Personalized exercise prescription during and after cancer treatment is vitally important. As a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with a specialization in exercise oncology, I was fortunate to attend this webinar today. It was inspiring to listen to experts from across the world speaking on the benefits of exercise for people with cancer. A few things discussed included:... Personalized exercise prescription increases the effectiveness of chemotherapy Exercise decreases symptoms such as cancer-related fatigue, nausea, lymphodema, pain, anxiety/depression, etc. Exercises decreases mortality and recurrence rates Personalized exercise prescription allows for individual symptoms, lifestyle, health factors, and preferences to be considered.
