To all those who are grandparented into the Acupuncture Regulatory College. I feel there are a lot of questions we need to ask ourselves before deciding to proceed with the transition into the general class from the grandparent registration. Who knew it would be so expensive to be regulated? With the cost of 1800 plus hst to go through the PLAR process and then when you pass to pay an additional 200 plus hst for the application fee, not to mention the high cost of registrat...ion dues and the extra insurance. You need to ask yourself: how many acupuncture treatments do I do outside the scope of the other regulatory body(ie CMTO), how many of your clients are claiming under their acupuncture coverage, how long will I be practicing past April 2018 (expiration of the Grandparent registration) After reviewing all the information, our students will have to go through the case study route. I would suggest you start using the same format for noting as they have online (under sample treatment plan). You should also start using the same Standard Acupuncture Nomenclature that is under the suggested references. I will be running a PLAR Review class on Sat Mar 8th, I would encourage people to review our course but to also look at other schools to get as many points of view as possible. I will also be running the integrating the tongue and pulse on Sat Mar 7th for those who need to upgrade their diagnosis skills. These courses will be available to register by the end of the week. The information on transitioning into the general registration is on the college's website. www.ctcmpao.on.ca There are a number of documents to read including: The members guide to transitioning, the Guide to complete PLAR Prior Learning Assesment, Entry Level Occupational Competencies Document, the slides from the Professional Development Day, and the case study examples. If you have any specific questions please contact me via email. [email protected] I will be investigating the best way for our students to transition into general registration. This will take a little time and I will post something by the end of August. The cost of applying for PLAR is $1800 plus hst. Some people are opting to keep their grandfather registration until April 2018, and then practicing acupunture within the scope of their college.

To all acupuncturists that are thinking of going from the grandfathered class to the general registration in Ontario. The ctcmpao is having a webinar in August. I would suggest that you do sign up for this course. There is a lot of information in the session. It will help me give you details on how to transition into general registration and what route to take.

I was at the professional development day for the ctcmpao. The course was on the transitioning from grandfathered registration to general registered. I have some information to go through. The college beleives they will have the information on the website by the start of August. I will go through the information by the end of August and will inform our students on which route to go.
