From all of us at the Dauphin Fire Department, please have a Merry Christmas, be safe and stay well.

Thank you! To the kind soul that left this stone at the corner of the Fire Station, it has now found a permanent home inside our Communications Room so that it doesn’t get lost in the next snowfall. Whoever you are that left this gift, we hope that you have an awesome week, stay safe!

Not sure if you can see this. I don’t know the details of this visit. But what I see is our Dauphin area RCMP taking time in their busy day to assist a senior. After a big snowfall last night. This member stopped to shovel a while. True community spirit in action. Thank you!

Shortly after 2:30 am this morning (Thursday January 07), DFD was dispatched for the report of an unknown fire on Jackson Street. Upon arrival it was found the neighbor to the caller was burning old papers on the deck of their home. There was no actual fire. Should you have any old letters you wish to dispose of, we would advise that people turn to the option of a shredder rather than a lighter. Stay safe all.

DFD responded to a total of 168 incidents in 2020, an approximate 22% decrease in calls as compared to 2019 and the lowest amount of calls for service since 2006 (156 incidents). The largest volume of calls were for motor vehicle collisions at 51 incidents; up from 39 in 2019 while the second largest volume was for false alarms at 50 incidents; down from 67 calls in 2019. It is difficult to say whether COVID-19 restrictions had anything to do with the decrease in overall ca...lls, however there was a significant decrease (88%) in the amount of kitchen fires. So either people were ordering out more often, or on-line cooking lessons were more popular than ever before in 2020 . Whatever the reason for the decrease in calls, we are all very thankful for everyone's efforts in maintaining a fire safe community. Stay safe all!

We were very fortunate to be able to escort Santa around Dauphin this past week, every fire fighter is sure to be on the good list this year! Thank you Santa for letting us help you spread some cheer in 2020. And a big thank you to the Grinch who really has a big heart! We managed to catch a short video of Santa saying good bye before he whisked away back to the North Pole to pack his sleigh for Christmas Eve.

Well, the competition is over... Congratulations to the RCMP who doubled the amount of donations for the Dauphin and District Food Bank. This was a great challenge for a very good cause! The RCMP collected approximately 1,100 kg of food while DFD collected 500 kg. Pictured is Fire Chief Abrey giving in to Constable Schirmacher admitting defeat

It was 3 days into the New Year before DFD was called for service. Shortly after 7:00 pm on Sunday January 03, a call was received for report of residential smoke alarms sounding on Bossons Avenue. The result was smoke from a cooking incident that activated the monitored home alarm. Shortly after returning to the Station, a 2nd alarm was received for residential smoke alarms sounding on 6th Avenue SE. The result was the same as the first, smoke from a cooking incident th...at activated the monitored home alarm. Thankfully neither incident was serious and that the home’s smoke alarms are functional. We would like to remind the public that if you do have a monitored alarm system in your home, keep the phone number of the service provider close by so you are able to report that the Fire Department is not needed. Stay safe, and Happy New Year!

The overwhelming support of this community never ceases to amaze me. On Monday we, along with the RCMP, will be dropping off all the donations to the Dauphin and District Food Bank. Sorry-audio has been muted by FB, it was the Mission Impossible music, which made for a great dramatic effect

Donations are coming in, what great support in our community (yet again!). Let’s Pack the Pumper for the Dauphin and District Food Bank this year. You can see that the pile is taller than this fire fighter, but we want to see it stacked taller than the Fire Chief! Drop off your donations at the Fire Station today and tomorrow (7:00 am to 5:00 pm) or call 204-622-3100 to arrange for your donations to be picked up on Saturday December 05 between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm.

The Dauphin Fire Department is currently accepting non-perishable food items for the Dauphin & District Community Food Bank. In a friendly challenge between DFD and the RCMP-Dauphin Detachment, we are trying to "Pack the Pumper" while they are trying to "Cram the Cruiser", all for a good cause! Donations will be received in a no-contact manner to comply with the current Public Health Regulations. Stop by the Fire Station between the hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm this week to d...rop off your items. If you can't make it out to drop off your items, call 204-622-3100, and one of our fire fighters can come to you on Saturday, December 5th between 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm to pick up your items. Items needed for the food bank include: Canned beans, canned salmon, canned tomatoes, canned tuna, flakes of ham, Kraft Dinner, spaghetti sauce, pasta, crackers, and soup.
