On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed, 400 were police officers and firefighters, in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in NYC, at the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C., and in a plane crash near Shanksville, PA.[

It’s been six months since children have attended school so please drive carefully. Slow down in school zones, watch for children at crosswalks and never pass a school bus displaying flashing red lights.

August 6,2020. 03:23hrs Crews from Glace Bay Ladder 2, Engine 6,Engine 7, Brush 4 and Rescue 3 were dispatched to a structure fire with possible entrapment on Douglas Ave, Glace Bay. Upon arrival, crews found fire venting from one window and the rest of the one storey home was completely filled with heat and smoke. Two crews from Ladder 2 and one crew from Engine 6 made an immediate entry through front door of home to start a primary search for possible occupants and begin fi...re suppression efforts. With the primary search finding no occupants and fire conditions deteriorating quickly, crews were pulled from building and fire was attacked from the exterior of the building. Once the main fire was knocked down, crews returned back inside structure to continue their suppression efforts and immediately realized the fire was now quickly spreading to the attic area. With the warm overnight temperatures, high humidity and the high temperatures inside the structure, crews started to quickly suffer from heat exhaustion and a call went out to Reserve Mines Fire Department for assistance. After three hours of amazing firefighting efforts of both departments, the fire was brought under control. Two firefighters suffered injuries during the firefighting efforts, one suffering burns on their face and the second suffering a shoulder injury while pulling ceilings to get at the fire in the attic. Their injuries are not considered serious and expected to make full recovery. We would like to pass on our sincerest gratitude to the crews of Reserve Mines Engine 46 and Brush 45, the paramedics from EHS who tended to the injured firefighters and those suffering from heat exhaustion and lastly, the the officers of the CBRMPS who helped us with stretching lines, getting equipment and contacting the home owners. As Chief, I couldn’t be prouder of all the firefighters on scene who showed their true professionalism under the most extreme conditions. See more

Once again tragedy has roots in Nova Scotia. Captain Jennifer Casey lost her life in crash today in Kamloops, BC. Our thoughts are with Captain Casey’s family and friends and also with her Snowbird teammates. May you fly high with the angels.
