Adopt A Mutt Dog Rescue: Thunder Bay

As we move into 2021, we look back on the dogs of 2020. This was by far, the most challening year to keep a dog rescue afloat. From nearly two months of no vet appointments to cancelled surgeries to every in person fundraiser being scrapped...we certainly didn't get by Covid without challenges. But we persevered, dug in our heels and made it work! We head into 2021 in a great position to tackle whatever comes our way next and hope to continue to work with neonates, injured d...ogs or other medical cases as was most of 2020. Until we've all been vaccinated and thrown our masks away for good, we will continue to hold off on doing litters as the world is just too fragile a place to try and sustain those locally. To everyone who fostered, adopted or donated this year...thank you! To our amazing vet teams at Northwestern Vet and Thunder Bay Veterinary Hospital, we couldn't do what we do without your expertise and willingness to come along on this crazy ride! The update everyone has been waiting for! Calvin and Hobbes had their recheck today and they look amazing. Roly-Poly, healthy puppies. They will be neutered on March 5 and as long as surgery goes well, will be adoptable that weekend. We will open the adoption form March 6 and due to high demand, these pups will be seeking local homes only.

Update - thanks to Crystal from FurBabies TNR for donating one off marketplace! Does anyone have a jolly jumper kicking around? Malik is trying really hard to get up on all fours but we need to support him to start building muscle memory. The doorframe style would be perfect for the layout of the house and would be able to be mcgyvered with his full body harness. Cerebellar Hypoplasia pups can take months to learn to walk but Malik is not giving up so neither are we. With the improvement he’s made in being able to hold a sit and other fine motor control, this would be a huge help.

Guess what Atlas did today? This is why we do what we do! This guy will be running on our bush hikes in no time!

Where are we at with Atlas? Every day something changes with this happy pup. He is getting up on all fours more and more. He has also learned to bunny hop and run. Most importantly, the constant stream of pee has stopped! Atlas is far from perfect, but he can now go a couple of hours around the house with a mostly dry belly band. He does dribble on his legs when he goes outside but he seems to know he’s peeing which is great news. He still doesn’t know when he has to poop s...o we stimulate him to keep things scheduled and clean. As always, Atlas will finish his vetting in the care of the rescue so we can give an adopter as much disclosure as possible about future needs. We hope to have Atlas adoptable sometime in December.

Atlas is looking really good these days! Short sessions several times a day are building strength, teaching him where his feet are and growing his confidence. It is still unclear due to his age whether or not his bodily functions are improving. Atlas has his next vet check on Nov 1st!

Two adoption announcements!! Congratulations to Roo who has become best friends with her new brother Marvin. We are so happy the transition was so easy for everyone. And ...thanks to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society, Kandi has found her special someone!!

You have to stand before you can walk! When he came, Malik could not stand unassisted at all! Daily sessions are engaging muscles and building strength. And of course downtime is wrestling with and snuggling Atlas! It looks like Malik wont be a huge dog. He’s just 15 pounds and must be approaching 12 weeks now.

Today we introduced Lucy to the Great White North. She had a blast! Lucy will be adoptable early next month following her vet check! She’s the happiest doodle you’ve ever met!!
