Bringing people together through deep canvassing How to cross the divide when Trump and Biden supporters have polar opposite opinions? Indeed, how do we connect with our neighbours and coworkers that have different political views? This spring, the Institute for Change Leaders trained 125 members of the Unitarian Universalist Advocacy Network of Illinos’s (UUANI) on the art of deep canvassing, public narratives and recruitment. Instead of trying to convince their neighbours ...whose opinions are right or wrong, members practiced canvassing by focusing on their shared experiences. These members then reached out to over 55,000 people, gained almost 79% positive votes in the Chicagoland area with 60% in the suburbs. The results are astounding. The UUANI members plan to continue to build partnerships through experiential and values based conversations. They will continue to build bridges and achieve unity of purpose in their area. From Fear to Fuel, Organizing for Hope: How big organizing influenced the American election.
