Is everybody ready to do some cartwheels? Check out our cartwheel video for lots of great tips! A few notes: Star cartwheels - if you learned them that way elsewhere to start that's fine but we don't really teach it that way at any age, even little ones can start learning it the proper way. For anyone new to cartwheels, a beginner way to start that can help is start with one foot in front, use a cushion or something 2-4 inches high you can put your hands on, placing one hand... close to you and one further away, and try to jump over the object your hands are on, and over time it will start looking more like a cartwheel. Levers - levers are necessary for a "proper" cartwheel, but it also makes it trickier to kick over, so if you are still working on getting legs straight and over your head in your cartwheels, it's ok to leave out the levers for now, but do practice them with t-holds and needle scale as I showed so it will make it easier when you do start adding them to cartwheels. I also didn't discuss very much a lever out, it is the same thing as a lever in but in reverse, so as you come back up you have to stay in a nice straight line just like when you were going down and keep your back foot off the ground until you are standing straight up. Have fun everybody!

Hello everyone! I hope you are staying warm on another cold day. If you're hiding out in the house today, why not work on your splits! Here is the next video in our new gymnastics program series! Here are a couple extra tips I didn't mention in the video: If you have your splits all the way down (or are very close and aren't feeling a really good stretch anymore) try over splits by putting your front heel up on a mat/pillow/stack of folded blankets, or anything else you can... find that is about 4 inches high. If that's STILL too easy, put it on something even higher! For middle splits, if you're not sure if you're staying straight as I mentioned in the video, do them against a wall. You can do over splits for middle splits as well. Also, make sure you always work all 3 splits (right leg in front, left leg in front, and middle). When doing splits with one leg in front, make sure your belly button is facing your front leg, not turned to the side. Even if you are not all the way down, your front leg should still be straight with only your front heel (not toes) on the ground. The more days a week you work on your splits the better. One mistake that a lot of people make in working on splits is they stop as soon as it feels the tiniest bit uncomfortable. Now, you don't want to over stretch and hurt yourself so you should not be in EXTREME discomfort doing the splits, lol, but if you want to get your splits faster you definitely need to push yourself a bit as if it's not uncomfortable then you're not really stretching anything and will not progress. Also, the longer you hold your splits, the better the stretch you will get. 30 seconds is a good starting point. For those who are more experienced and can hold for longer, slowly work your way up to 2 minutes. For the last 10 seconds, no matter what your total hold time is, try to go down a little further. Have fun!

Here is our first video in our new gymnastics video series with Coach Andria! Today is all about warm ups and stretching! To start any warm up, it's good to jog for 1-2 minutes. If you don't have space to actually run, jogging in place is a good alternative. This video shows a quick warm up routine I use in my classes. Each stretch should be held for 10 seconds so feel free to pause the video as needed to be able to do that. Remember, it doesn't matter what your current leve...l of flexibility is, don't compare yourself to anyone else, just worry about what is a good stretch for you. The more days a week you stretch, the faster you will gain more flexibility. Enjoy our first video and have fun!
