Roncesvalles Animal Hospital is partnering with the Canadian Animal Blood Bank (CABB), however we need your help. For us to be able to act as a donor clinic, we need at least 10 families to commit to donating their time. Below you will find the criteria to help a pet in need, the perks you will receive and some youtube videos to guide you through the easy process of blood donation. Donor criteria Veterinarian recommended healthy, even in temperament and calm enough to be re...strained Minimum 55 lbs (25 kg) lean body weight 1 8 yrs of age to start and can donate until age 10 (health permitting) Healthy and not taking medications that may exclude the donor eligibility to donate Up to date on core vaccines as determined by the CABB (titre testing is accepted) with a minimum of four weeks post vaccination at time of donation Eligible to donate every 3 months for a minimum of two years Donor Perks Upon first donation, donor receives a bandana and donor dog tag. Subsequent milestone donations are celebrated with specialized dog tags for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 donations. Complimentary Polymerized Chain Reaction (PCR) testing for blood borne diseases is completed each time the pet donates. Any positive PCR results are forwarded to the primary veterinary clinic who will contact the owner to advise of any further testing/treatment that may be necessary. Costs incurred for further testing/treatment is the responsibility of the owner. 4Dx SNAP blood test is run once per year. These results can be placed on the donors file. Identification Microchip is implanted after the second donation (rescue dogs are eligible upon their first visit). Every donor is eligible to receive one blood product for every donation should ever the need arise (product cost only is covered) Below are a few links for you to view and if you have any further questions, or would like to participate, please contact Laura at [email protected] or 416-531-8282. 1 in 26 dogs test POSITIVE for LYME disease. There were a total of 7.866 cases in Canada over 2020. 1 in 128 dogs test POSITIVE for ANAPLASMOSIS. There were a total of 1.568 cases in Canada over 2020.
