This week we recognize National Addictions Awareness week. Since 2007, the Calgary Drug Treatment Court has played an active role in helping drug-addicted offenders turn their lives around. With a goal of integrating court intervention and treatment services, the CDTC has assisted participants in ending drug-motivated crime. This allows Calgarians struggling with addiction to return to healthy lifestyles sooner, by addressing addictive behaviour. We are incredibly proud of th...e success stories that have come from the CDTC. Along with our community partners, we applaud each of you for your hard work and dedication to maintaining a positive and productive lifestyle. Please join us this week as we meet four individuals who have much to be proud of. Note that identifying details have been changed or omitted to protect the individual’s privacy. Tom is a twenty-three year old Indigenous man. He was addicted to methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl. Tom has had over 60 criminal charges since 2012. He became a participant in Calgary Drug Treatment Court in April 2019. During his time in CDTC, his son was born and is now one year old. Tom has worked very hard to be a good father while participating in treatment. Part of his healing has included a reconnection to his culture. Tom has relied on various community partners for housing while involved with the CDTC. Tom has over 569 days sober, as of his graduation date from CDTC. Many thanks to all of the valuable partners involved in helping to make Calgary Drug Treatment Court a success.
