As we are preparing for the upcoming school year here at Academic Vision, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support. As you know, we have always done our best to provide tutoring services to all age and grade levels, but now more than ever, there appears to be a greater need for elementary students to gain and develop a strong foundation of basic math skills. The Ministry of Education has decided to add 5 extra hours of math each week ...to the elementary curriculum to help students with improving Ontario's scores and performance in standardized testing for math. Further, the article discussed the staggering amount of post-secondary students failing first year math. This is highly attributed to a weak math foundation from the earlier ages. Some issues cited in this article include weak mental math and dependency on calculators. While the Ministry of Education is evaluating what needs to be changed, we here at Academic Vision have our own vision! Beginning this summer, we would like to place a special focus on our students from Gr. 1-9 in getting their math foundation as solid as can be! We will be emphasizing more on mental math, foundational skills, and less dependency on a calculator. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information on how we can help your child improve and succeed in math.
